Flybe Summer 2008 Expansion

Tue Nov 27, 2007 9:09 am

Quote:
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, today launches its complete summer 2008 schedule that offers a mixture of popular sunshine and domestic routes. With 23 new routes across the UK and Europe and over seven million seats on sale, travellers are urged to book now to secure flights for their summer breaks next year.
Regional highlights include nine additional routes being introduced from Cardiff, Inverness and the Isle of Man, a major investment in these important Flybe destinations. The South West also benefits with brand new routes to Barcelona (Reus), Birmingham, Glasgow, the Isle of Man and Southampton from Newquay airport, in addition to flights from Exeter to Dubrovnik, Brussels, Inverness and Aberdeen.

There are also 12 new routes on sale from Flybe’s Scottish bases of Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow to destinations across the UK and Europe, as well as a new non-stop service to Paris from Belfast and two new services from Jersey to Aberdeen and Doncaster.

With key routes to tourist resorts and city break destinations, the programme offers customers a comprehensive selection of affordable and convenient links to popular business and leisure destinations, successfully bringing low-cost travel to the regions. They also confirm Flybe’s dedication to key UK bases as well as further developing the airline’s growth.

More info to come I presume and a full new route list hopefully

I would have maybe expected more from Manchester given the reduction in flights expected from Jet2 - but maybe this is more a question of equipment. The announced routes are generally Q400 territory whereas the opportunities from Manchester (Madrid etc) would be more suited to the Embraer fleet. Or they could be playing a wait-and-see game until easyJets plans become clear; expand/just maintain the old GB routes/close the base.

Well, there is hope. If enough punters go for it, it may be upgraded to a nonstop service like the BHD-CDG route.

Does anybody know what aircraft types will operate flybe's routes next year or will we have to wait and find out?

I hope that Flybe's pilots do a better job of finding INV when trying to land their aircraft than their colleagues in the marketing department could do!

Easyjet do daily GLA-CDG, so there is already a non stop option

Other BE S08 notes:

EDI-CDG and LBA-ABZ are axed
EXT-ABZ and EXT-INV are combined as a double drop
SEN-JER goes from once to twice weekly
IOM-BHX/LTN both go from once to twice daily
DSA-BHD goes from 12 to 10 times a week (one flight dropped on Tuesday and Thursday)
