SAS Short-Terms Lease Contracts After The Q400

Tue Nov 27, 2007 1:05 pm

I was wondering what airlines are currently operating on behalf of SAS under short-term wet-lease contracts to replace the 27 Q400s?

Blue1, Transwede, Atlantic Airlines have been mentioned in the press. From bookings I have with SAS I can also see that DAT and Cimber Air have taken over flights. Spanair has also been mentioned here on a.net.

Is there some sort of reaonably comprehensive list that gives some details about types and routes?

For a while the list was available (on daily basis). Now they only mention that "Thanks to leasing and available capacity with other airlines, SAS has kept the adjustments at a minimum level. The airlines operating SAS flights until New Year are: Atlantic Airways, Cimber Air, Luxair, SAS Norway, Danish Air Transport, Spanair and Jet X."

Quite a bit of the replacement was/is done by reducing frequency and using their own MD-80.

I was at NCL today, and the lunchtime flight to CPH was a Cimber CRJ with large "Flying for Scandinavian Airlines " titles along the fuselage, and a SAS blue square on the tail...

At LUX we were quite disappointed to see that the replacement aircraft for the two daily DH4 flights was not something "exotic" ... but rather a leased Luxair 737...
