Qatar Welcomes First 77W, New Business Class Beds!

Wed Nov 28, 2007 9:53 am

Tommorrow, the first 77W based in the State of Qatar will arrive in Doha marking the end of Qatar's all-Airbus policy. It will be A7-BAA and used for Dubai starting Dec. 1, and Washington from January.

The seating is very generous, with Business class in a classic 2+2+2 layout, becoming flat beds!

Here is an interactive video of the interior from qatarairways.com

javascript:openImageWindow(980,690,'seating-plan/777demo/index.html','777demo');

If the above link dows not work, check the one below and click "Launch Now" It is worth it!

The biz class doesnt look much different to the new seat on the A346 (which is the best I've ever tried I should point out) - what are the main differences?
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Judging from the seat map posted on their website, the new J/C seat on QR 77W will be fully flat instead of lie-flat. Just like the new J/C seat QF will introduce on their A380, which will be fully flat also.

Nice Business Class cabin on the 773ER, I'm surprised there is no First Class given how large the airplane is. I can't wait until New York sees the 777 nonstop to Doha, an A330 via GVA just isn't the same.

Any chance we'll see these in Australia? Looks nice. I did not realise QR served that many destinations; impressive route map too.

Congratulations to Qatar Airways for their first B777.300ER.

Since the first time I saw it on Airliners.net I fall in love with it coz it looks Amazing from the outside & I was Dying to see how dose it look from the inside and for sure it look Great.

Finally my wish for the Business class seats came true and they are have flat beds the 2-2-2 configuration is very generous a small lounge would be very welcomed to make the product truly 5 star or even a standing snack bar like on the new BA club world or on SIA A380.

Over all looks very good compared to what emirates have on their business in fact this product looks like what Emirates offer on some of it's B777 first class.

Nice Work QatarA340 thanks for sharing ^_^

Are all the 77Ws going to be 2-class config? That would surprise me a little. It does look fantastic though inside and out.

Looks like QR are doing an EY and keeping the A346 as their three class workhorse and the 77W as their high density people mover.

Very nice Business Class. It's a surprise because I think that QR will keep the three class configuration in its the B773W.

Congratulations to Qatar Airways for its first B777!

QR needs to have the B 773ERs in a 2 class configuration to fly them on medium/long haul routes where there is potentially high density demand but low demand for F class especially. This is probably why routes such as IAD is getting the B 77W ahead of others as its a long haul flight which sees demand mainly in Y class and a little in J but hardly anything in F. Also it needs to use the B 773ERs on nonstop USA flights as this aircraft's CASM is lower than the A 346!

I noticed that the website said 60 787's and not 30. A plan to exercise Options? Or is that a typo and 60 777/787 total?

Nice, I will be on that flight that day, coming from LAX and continuing on to AUH. Got a great deal on that flight, too bad I'm flying Y class and won't get to experience business. I was wondering which aircraft they will use on that flight, because when I went on Qataraiways.com it showed it as the A346, but then my itinerary showed it as the 77W. So, are you sure it will be the 77W?

Thanks.

That's quite a difference from an EK 77W. Maybe with a little competition from QR, EK will abandon the 4 3 4 seating arrangement.

Maybe in the future; QR has 14 77W on order, and probably it will use one in LHR sometime in the next two years--although I see other more important routes such as Australia, USA, Canada, South America, ect..

Be grateful QR send the glorious four-holer to LHR instead - quieter, smoother, and with a first class!

I would think LGW will see the 77W before LHR does.

I have booked seats on the IAD-DOH-BOM route for the first week of January. The aircraft listed for IAD-DOH is still the A340-600. However on the way back two weeks later, the aircraft listed is the 777-300.

Qatar Airways have a made a few improvements to their website but their live customer support is still not that great. The call wait times can be really long! Some of the customer reps don't greet you and some even get annoyed. I'm pretty sure the customer support center is not in the U.S.

I'm sure Qatar's on board service is great but If they want to stay 5 star, they need to improve customer service over the phone!!

I quite agree. The A340-600s are supremely quiet compared to the 777-300ERs.

Quoting Express1 (Reply 22):

Highly unlikely and no plans to at the moment. This is likely to be the case with all of the 2 Class 777-300ERs.
Heathrow is a premium routing and is served with only 3-class aircraft.

As CHRISBA777ER says; Gatwick is much more likely to see the 773ER over Heathrow due to the lack of F cabins.

Looking forward to flying the 773ER's at QR.

Too bad I'm leaving on Jan 1 and won't be on the T7, never been on one before and was looking forward to it. Maybe on the way back, but not sure yet which airline I'll be using. I guess I will have to settle for the A346. Don't get me wrong, I love the 346 and I hear it's a great aircraft to fly on, although the only 340 I've been on is the RJ A342.

Anybody notice they let their A346 options expire?  Wow!

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/341702_qatar30.html

"Not so long ago, Qatar passed on the two-engine 777 in favor of the four-engine A340- 600. The airline has four of the Airbus planes in its fleet. But Al Baker said he has let expire options to order more. The A340 has fallen out of favor with airlines because it is not as fuel-efficient as the 777.

The 777 will form the "core" of Qatar Airways' long-haul fleet, Al Baker said."

RE: Qatar Welcomes First 77W, New Business Class B

I found these parts in a Flight Global article interesting:

Quote:

Qatar Airways has taken delivery of its first of 14 Boeing 777-300ERs, which will eventually replace its Airbus A340-600s on long-haul services from its Doha base.

<....>

Qatar also has six 777-200LRs on order for delivery from next year, as well as seven 777Fs and its fleet expansion and renewal programme envisages the retirement and replacement of its existing Airbus A330/A340 fleet as the aircraft reach five or six years of age.

<....>

He says that he will not be adding to four A340-600s that the airline has introduced over the last year and that the 777s will replace them. "I expect the A340s will be some of the first aircraft we will lease out," he says.

Source: http://www.flightglobal.com
I hadn't expected that they would phase out new aircraft like the A346 that fast.
