Dubai To Intoduce City Air Taxi

Wed Nov 28, 2007 11:45 am

Beating the traffic jams in style...

Dubai: Resident and visitors to Dubai will be able to take air taxis soon to beat the regular traffic jams.

A private franchise company Cars Taxi will introduce about 10 helicopters to be used as taxis for passengers in Dubai.

"We are finalising the plan to introduce helicopter taxi service in the UAE by 2009 and anyone who can afford it will be able to use it," Abdullah Sultan Al Sabbagh, General Manager of Cars Taxi told Gulf News on Tuesday. He said that they were negotiating with some European companies to bring helicopters on lease to operate as taxis.

A great idea, took me nearly 3 hours last night to get from Jebel Ali to DXB airport. Sheikh Zayed road is a car park every night.

This system has worked well for quite a few years from Nice to Monte Carlo, more than enough passegers here willing to stump up the cash to beat the dreaded traffic.

You need to start flying Etihad out of Abu Dhabi! About 30 mins drive from Jebel Ali.

No, I work in Jebel Ali and live not far from DXB.

Bit off topic, EY is good but the AUH terminal is far too crowded for me.

That is not a bad idea. I have planned a several hours stopover in DXB but friends have advised me to take one whole day because half of the day I might get stuck in traffic. But until 2009 is still a lot of time.  Smile

This is not a novel idea. Something similar already exists in Brazil. While this is a nice idea Dubai traffic's problems still need to be addressed to ease the struggle of the masses. Those who live/frequent the place already know what I mean. This may help the elite but as we all know the elite in the UAE are already able to help themselves. Jo Schmuck stuck on Sheikh Zayed road is the one who needs the real help.

Sounds like instead of spending all their money on lavish show-off type stuff, the government there needs to spend its money building adequate basis infrastructure for its citizens.

what DXB needs is something similar to YVR's and BKK's city transportation system i.e. SKY TRAINS which connect major points of the city with each other + a nonstop express service from the new Jebel Ali Airport to the current DXB Intl Airport.

I don't know how the major road/highway system out there is, but maybe the country could spend billions on that instead of all the fake island stuff and buying companies. Expand things that will make day to day living easier for everyone.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!

They are building lots or new roads and a rail transit system as well. In fact, the road construction is a large part of the delay.

Here's a cool stat I saw on Dubai news; in 2005, there were 1 million vehicles registered in Dubai. In 2006, they added 250,000 vehicles to the registry...added a quarter of a million new vehicles...a 25% increase. HOLY CRAPPOLA...! There isn't an infrastructure in the world that can keep up with that.

The place is a mess, pretty...but a mess. Abu Dhabi is much easier to get around in. If you really need to see Dubai, it's only a 120ish km down the road...only a 3 or 4 hour drive. No worries.
What the...?

That is good to know then, as those kinds of things I haven't seen on US news.

The real estate market there is incredibly hot so The Palms projects and The World are hugely profitable for the government. They can use profits from this to improve infrastruture and they will. The is no reason they can't do both.

I was going to suggest that Dubai could use Heli Air Monaco for consulting on the matter. Their helicopters fly regular routes from the Heliport down in Fontvieille to Nice airport but they also run a lot of private flights to just about any place where a helicopter can land.
