WN's New Boarding Process

OK, I am sitting here at gate 2 in SAN waiting for my flight. This is really funny watching all these sheeple being all confused. They keep boarding out of order and they are asked to go stand by the pole with their little number on it.

This new process is even stranger than the old process.

I love Southwest and fly them quite often but I've always hated the cattle call and I just don't know how they could have replaced that mess with these little poles with numbers on them. This had to cost more to implement than assigning seat numbers. These gate areas just look silly!

Haha the system works but it will just take some time for people to get it...its also the time of the year when our Infrequent travelers travel....
sit on the Captain side when you fly into SAN

Well I must tell you that I love the new process and it is simply brilliant.....I have taken 10 flights on SWA since it started and what a big difference---Everyone around me agreed it was so much better...I guess there are those who just will hate SWA no matter what they do and I say to you THEN DO NOT FLY THEM---FLY UNITED PLEASE. SWA is so far superior as a domestic only airline to the legacy carriers that even when they make great imporvements their detractors come out of the woodwork like raoches.

For me it has worked perfectly. Being on the automatic A list means I am one of the first to board regardless of when I check-in. I also noticed during the Thanksgiving rush (which sees travelers who cannot be described as "aware") most people found their place, boarded quickly and caused little confusion. I must also say the new bar style counters with electrical outlets in PHX is another great thing for business travelers. Before that, finding a place to plug in a cell or laptop was not easy. So, I think WN has made some great decisions which, in this traveler's mind, they have done for over 35 years.

I am very excited to try out the new boarding process over Christmas. I'm a little concerned about being shafted on the 24 hour check-in rule though. I'm the conceirge for a resort in Orlando, and I check in guests quite often for Southwest flights. I sat at the computer and clicked "check in" for about 1 minute before the computer actually allowed me to check in, meaning it was EXACTLY 24 hours prior to the flight. One time I was A-41 and the other time I was A-60! Of course, this was for a guest, not me, so it didn't really concern me. I hope when I fly to SDF on the 20th that I'm given a lower number!

So far from my experience, it is those who don't fully understand the process themselves that are having the hardest time adjusting. It really is not as confusing as it first appears.

It seems to be working great. Many customers have expressed very positive remarks.

I rank WN up there with Disneyland when it comes to dealing with lots of people waiting in lines! (I consider that a compliment and I am not being sarcastic.)

Like spending money on food and merchandise  Big grin Its funny because I was still at Disney when the idea first came down the grapevine and from everything we (park management) heard from up above, that was the reason. That's the mouse for ya. Haha!

As far as the new boarding policy, I like it. I was at gate 2 in SAN the other day as well and I'd say the vast majority of people in the boarding area had no problems. The only quirk I've seen has come from vairous gate agents from different airports. SAN agents announcements regarding the new boarding process were very concise and clear and brief. LAS on the other hand was hilarious. The poor girl doing the announcement rambled on and repeated herself for a good 5 minutes. But obviously this is still new for everyone. I'm sure by the time the X-mas rush comes around, everything will be running smoothly.
