Will IAH ever see scheduled A380 service?

I would guess BA or AF in summer times in 5-6 yrs

AF might because of the Sky-Team thing, other than that, I just don't see who, or how, or when, or why....

LH, AF, and BA are all candidates in that 5 - 10 year span. I'm sure IAH will be a 748 station from LH tho

Extremely unlikely. European airlines will largely use the A380 is for extremely dense markets in Asia or to slot constrained airports. Markets like Delhi, Shanghai, and Tokyo. In the U.S., they will be used on other very high-density routes and important alliance hub routes, which are pretty limited trans-Atlantic wise to Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and possible San Francisco and Washington.

In Houston, a big business market, frequency, not capacity, is key. I wouldn't hold my breathe for an A380 in Houston within even the next ten years, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with you. LAX and JFK will see the most by far. SFO and MIA will follow. ORD one here and there....

I would agree. If you want to know where the A380 will be flying in 10-20 years, the answer will be Asia, Asia and more Asia. China and 1.3 billion with only 4 major airports (HKG/PVG/CAN/PEK) so far. India also has 1.3 billion people with only 4 major airports (BOM/DEL/MAA/BLR) so far. These two countries need big planes if they are going to expand service.
Nowadays, it is hard to tell when the commercials end and real life begins

I agree with overall consensus, however we seem to have forgotten EK. While they are very new to the market (well they will be this coming Monday), by most accounts this service is going to be hugely successful. While starting with a 3 weekly service (only because they will not have the available a/c until Feb for a daily service, according to the EK rep in Houston)

"Emirates will start with three flights a week and increase to seven flights in February. The staggered service is because Emirates is waiting on deliveries from Boeing, Page said"

Now some have suggested that this service could go beyond a daily service and if so, could and would EK consider putting the 'BigBus' on the route? That said there is some question as to whether the 380 would have the legs to make IAH/DXB.

Just thought that I would throw that out.

That sounds likely, it will be interesting to see which routes will see the A380 and which the 748I.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Extremely likely.
The first class suites in the A380 cater to passengers who would otherwise book a private jet. Outside of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco the only market that could consistently fill up those premium suites are Oil and Gas passengers to and from Houston.
On a side note I’ve seen a couple posts on MIA getting A380 service. I seriously doubt it. MCO will be the A380s first and perhaps only choice in Florida.

If it were all Premium and Business class..Haliburton, now "Headquartered" in DXB, alone would fill the plane!

LH is the carrier that will bring A380 service to MIA. The new terminal was built with this service in mind.

LH and BA will likely bring the A380 to MIA, IMO.

Who on earth is going to bring it to MCO? It's not Virgin, who is basing their A380s at Heathrow in a premium configuration, not Gatwick. It's not British Airways, who is, again, likely to put their A380s in a premium configuration, not the first class-less configuration that the use to Orlando. And it's not Lufthansa, who just started Orlando, and flies there with A330s. MCO isn't seeing an A380 for a long, long time.

Meanwhile, MIA's new terminal has been designed with the A380 in mind, and Lufthansa representatives, as well as Air France reps, have already visited to learn about how MIA will be accomodating the A380. 2010-11 is a good time frame for MIA to expect the A380. LAX will see it first (2008), then JFK (late '08/'09), then SFO (2009, probably from a trans-Pacific carrier), then MIA (2010ish) and ORD (2010ish). Beyond that, it's doubtful they'll be going to many other places. It certainly won't be at Orlando in the near future considering that, so far, airlines have plans to put their A380s in premium configurations, not high-density, which Orlando needs.

I hope we, at DFW, will see LH B-747-8i service, too, replacing the current A-340-300, and occasional A-330-200. LH use to fly B-747-200, and occasional B-747-400 FRA-DFW. IAH can have the A-380.
