Amazing! Way to go Boeing, isn't this a new record? I was sure the commercial aviation sales boom would have slowed down this year. And this whole boom is still without any major orders from UA and AA, and only moderately sized orders from DL and NW. CO is the only US legacy that has ordered a significant amount of aircraft from Boeing since 9/11/01.

Airbus is doing even better which is more amazing all things considered. They are back on track with a winning product in the A350XWB. Congrats to Airbus!

Ok here's an interesting number. 1,136 gross orders were booked by Boeing from January to November 2007.
So far the gross orders for the entire year is 1,154 which means Boeing booked 18 orders so far in December including 15 737s, 1 787 and 2 777s

Cool! Are the 20 B789s for QF an exercise of the option they had when they ordered the first 45 B787s?

Yes they announced the firming of those options back in July and they firmed it up on Nov. 30th. I think Boeing probably shared some more -10 new s with them and I'm guessing that they liked what they heard but we'll see.

Are the 129 orders for the 777 a new record for annual 777 sales? That is a remarkable number of big planes to sell!

When does Airbus announce its monthly orders?

It's a nice world when both Airbus and Boeing have fat order books!

Now it's time for Airbus to start pumping out those A380 orders. Good luck in 2008!

Maybe Chinese Airlines. Airbus have revceived nearly 500 narrow body LOIs over the past few years (not sure of the firm orders), so one would think that there would be a considerable number of orders for the 737 from the various Chinese Airlines, just not anounced with any fanfare (maybe due to the Chinese A320 line).

Cheers

I agree BUT I am going to throw in some caution on both manufacturer's... that orders does not necessarily mean delivers... many airlines have to pay for those planes and with the credit crunch that is happening its going to be tough. Just look at this article on this topic:

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...AD5%2DD082206392ED%7D&siteid=yhoof

"As financial firms tighten their corporate travel budgets, oil prices continue to hover near record highs and the risk of a U.S. recession looms, the civil aerospace sector looks set for a challenging 2008, with airlines and aircraft makers vulnerable to fallout from the global credit crisis.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently cut its forecast for global airline profitability next year to $7.8 billion from $9.6 billion, with a revised oil assumption of $67 barrel from $63.
In a speech last month in Washington, IATA Chief Executive Giovanni Bisignani warned of potential turbulence ahead for the industry.

The credit crunch throws a shadow over the economic expansion that underlies our good performance. Airlines are $200 billion in debt and we could be heading for a downturn with little cash in the bank to cushion the fall," he said.
Fuel costs are continuing to climb, with a total bill for the industry of $132 billion this year, more than four times what it was in 2002, according to IATA."

It will be interesting to see if this has any effect whatsoever on EK. If they have a downturn in business with all of those A380's and A350's coming, it could be really painful for both EK and Airbus. On the other hand, we will see if Dubai is truly as recession proof as the Sheik is so fond of boasting about.

Fantastic year for Boeing. I bet that they will get a 3 years of current production this year.

I think the airlines in the US have the lions share of this debt.
But many blue chip carriers in the rest of the world are pumping out record profits (Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and more). And these are the ones behind record orders this year.
Like the rumours heard from UA. They wont be adding any new frames to the fleet for almost 10 years.
I haven't heard anything special from AA. DL has only minor orders.

Amazing that the year of the "777 killer" (the A350) results in a great year for the plane it is "killing".

Just like how the A330 has been booming even though the "A330 killer" (787) is doing incredibly!

Not necessarily, there have been quite a few occasions where BBJ orders "started out" at UFO orders with Boeing, including IIRC the first 787BBJ order.

To clarify. Shouldn't that be a total of 12 pending for Vietnam overall?

12 consisting of 4 for Vietnam Airlines via Vietnam Aircraft Leasing Joint Stock Company (VALC) and a further 8 directly for the VALC.

Through its partner Vietnam Airlines, VALC has signed a contract with Boeing to purchase 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to serve Vietnam's rapidly growing air travel industry.

This is to be finalised, along with 20 x A321s by December 19th.

They have a good chance of firming BA, VS and LCAL this year, bringing the total to 803. This assumes no other firmed 787 orders in the next 3 weeks.

They will have hit 787 firmed before first flight, but that isn't such a great accomplishment as it sounded before considering the delays. The sales are great, the "by first flight" is kind of a downer at this point...  Wink

Boeing says they have interest for about 200 of them at present.

Any 787 customer who also flies the A333, A343, and 772/77E would be a likely candidate.

Oh Boeing will certainly develop it.

The questions that need answers are how big will it be and what the MTOW will be. If they want more then a 6m stretch or an MTOW greater then 250t, then there need to be changes to undercarriage, wings and propulsion.

I think this is a key, we saw Boeing have quite a margin in order value in 2005 (opposed to Airbus' order value) due to widebodies. This year Airbus certainly has improved this figure with large orders for A350 and A330.

Not really in terms of firmed orders. It's still 2:1 narrow to wide firmed at Airbus.

At Boeing, it's more like 7:5 in favor of narrows.
