Air Service To The Russian Far East

Fri Dec 07, 2007 10:05 pm

Do any airlines currently fly to the Russian Far East from the US? I know Magadan Airlines used to but don't think they do any mroe. Wikipedia states that Dalavia will begin service from ANC to Petropavlosk-Kamchatsky in June and Vladivostok Avia will begin flying from ANC to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Vladivostok, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in April. As far as I know, Magadan operated its route with a Tu154, do Dalavia/Vladivostok plan to use Russian-built aircraft? If so, would these be the only Russian-built airlines serving the US?

See http://www.vladavia.ru/en/press-centre/press_releases/2007-11-8-00551/ for Vladivostok Avia details, TU -204-300s!

What destinations did Alaska serve? Love to see more connections both to Europe and the US from Russian Far East.

Vladavia was to start SEA also, but I guess things just didn't work out with the Port or something. Maybe in the future.

I guess with the chinese market growing so rapidly, Russia will take advantage of that, and hopefully more and new flights will be available.

I've heard about Alaska Airlines having flown to to destinations in the Russian Far East, but can't remember exactly when. Does anybody know when? Also, I seem to recall that AS was using MD-83s (?), but did it also use 737s?

AS service to Russia started in 1991, originally summer only. Not sure when they dropped those routes. New York Times article below from 1997 on AS service to Russia.
