Status Of The DL US Long Haul Product?

Sun Dec 09, 2007 3:53 am

Just wondering how DL is coming along with outfitting their 738s and 757s with the new long haul product (Song IFE, more legroom, etc)? I was checking a few routes (JFK-SLC, JFK-LAS) that I know should have the product already and I didn't see it marked on Delta.com. In the inflight services section it read "Movie" but shouldn't it say something else, I read on here awhile back that these flights were supposed to be designated with TV in the listing. And while I'm asking..Is the pitch 33" or 34"?

The pitch in the 757s(both versions) is 31in in economy, and 32in(i think) in the 738s. I rode in a reconfigured 757 back in april, and it was a bit crampt for my taste, but the PTV was awesome though.

You have to check the seat map to see if its a reconfigured 757. The configuration is 26F, 158Y. I don't know about the 738s though.

I would be willing to bet most 757's have the new IFE already even if they arent the ex-song jets. The Song Jet I traveled on SLC-DCA in July had the new DL IFE not the old IFE system that song had although DL was still in transition outfitting the rest of the 757's. When I checked my reservation before traveling somewhere on the booked flight it said In-Flight Entertainment but I don't remember where on the DL page under my reservation.

Another indicator of how to tell that the 757's had IFE was that you'll see 7 rows in F class when you look at the seating map when booking or checking your reservations that is if youre traveling by that 757.

As far as the 738's are concerned I know they were working on outfitting them with IFE's but I'm not sure how many have been done.

Regards Mike

If this is the case it is truly disappointing, I always thought that they were supposed to keep the song seat pitch, but I guess when they added F to the planes it had to come from somewhere. I guess I'll have to stick with B6 (34-36") and F9 (33" which is where it starts to get cramped for me)

Pitch is 33" on the 757 Transcon and 32" on the 738 Transcon (with slimeline which add up to another 1.5" legroom.
Some see lines, others see between the lines.

Does that really make a difference above and beyond the measurements they give us? I think that 33" should already account for the difference that slimline seats make since pitch is the measurement from one point on a seat to the identical point on the seat in front. Shouldn't that just make it so that while DL used to get like 30.5" they now get 32" AND tell the pax 32"?
