Question: Quick UA Connection In YYZ

Sun Dec 09, 2007 10:19 pm

Hey all,

I just had a question about connecting in YYZ, both flights on UA oddly enough. No, they are not codeshares with AC either. Right before Christmas, I'm hoping to nonrev out to IAD, but of course all the DEN-IAD nonstops are getting pretty full, so I'm looking at doing any flights with an intermediate stop. Oddly enough, one of the "better" options seems to be a routing of DEN-YYZ-IAD, both on UAX flights.

So, my question is, would I be able to make a ~39 min~ connection in YYZ?? Would I have to go through customs first, or would I be allowed to immediately get back on the plane?? (same aircraft continues to IAD)

All comments/suggestions appreciated!!

It is my understanding that you would both have to clear Canadian Immigration and Customs, then clear US Customs and Immigration and then security. No way you can do this under 40 minutes (unless you have a NEXUS card).

Hello Transpac787,

In june I Non-Rev LAX-YYZ-LGA on AC. In my case upon arrival in Terminal 1 ( UA also opperates out this terminal) I followed the sign for US Connections and Clear US Customs. Officer looked at me weird about my inbound LAX flight but then I explained I was Airline Employee. There is no need to clear Canadian Customs I think, well i didnt. Hope this helps. Just be in mind that any delay or depends how long Immigration lines plus secutity could be

UA to UA (USA>USA) is a semi-sterile connection. You must proceed into the customs hall, bear left, follow the US sign(flag) up the escalator, and doable without checked luggage. Line-ups in US Border Protection can be very heavy, but generally lighter in the queue for US Citizens.

I followed this routine the other day arrival from NYC departing to IAH in 15 minutes. Granted I was an operating crew member, but if you're inbound flight is one on time, and line-ups for Customs are light to moderate, it shouldn't be a problem. Mid-day departures (1100-1400) see the lightest lines at US Border Protection Services.
