JFK Incident 12/14

Fri Dec 14, 2007 7:48 am

About 2 hours ago an Air China 747F wing tip hit a Jetblue A320 tail when taxing in on taxiway CB the A320 had no pax and was parked. The right hand side of the B6 skin on the tail has been ripped off and the 747F wing tip was taken off. Hard to see any more as it's very dark.

There was also a close call at JFK between and AA Eagle flight and a 747 cargo plane. JFK is not a place to bring the "B" game.
Last year 1,944 New Yorkers saw something and said something.

I just happened to be listening to JFK tower on liveatc.net when that incident went down.. The Controller and the AA Eagle female pilot sounded pretty shook up.

Jetblue A320 tail

I don't know any specific when/where/how details, but the 747 clipped an E190, not an A320.

Just prior to 3pm local. Not sure of the UTC time but it did make it into the archives as I looked it up and listened to it again to try to figure out what exactally happened. When the incident took place I was working on something and not following it closely but hearing excited voice, I tuned it quite rapidily!

Is this the first ever incident involving E190?

No..............there have been a few minor 'ramp rash' cases... plus the Aero Republica E190 that went off the end of a rumway this summer. I have not seen any pictures, but I'm sure I will in the next few days.

I hope it wasn't a language issue --- ignoring an ATC instruction or the like. I'm based at JFK, and Air China crews are the arguably the worst when it comes to radio phraseology. They often read back the wrong instructions, or other times don't read back anything at all. Hate to say it, but it's true.

Nothing will be done until 2 planes crash. Remember all the people calling for strengthening the levees in New Orleans for years and years. Then Katrina, and only after that major wake-up call, then they rebuild them. but it was too late.

Its just human nature. Most people think : "Why spend the money when things work fine now ( without a horrible crash at JFK lately )"

If traffic is up 40% at JFK since 2001, theres a clear need for the government to straighten JFK out now. Whether that means another runway, or imposing new limits , or more ATC people and newer technology ATC tools -- whatever. The federal government has to step up and get this done.

Was that the airline with the pilots who just couldn't read instructions back correctly, and the tower had to keep arguing with them? It was on the news. You know what I'm talking about.
