Yes tickets are on sale...

What is interesting is the seat map in sabre...

I can't paste it as it doesn't paste correctley but the main highlights are

F & J are on the upperdeck with a small J section on the lower deck... Y is all lower deck

They are obviously launching a new J class the the seat arrangement is very interesting..

J class looks to be a 1 - 2 - 1 layout!! I will pay for that!

This seems to be confirmation that Emirates is using a derivative of the Thompson Solutions Business Class concept (which was confirmed to me by the creator, Mr. James Thompson some months back).

Furthermore, it should be noted that Thompson Solutions has licensed the product to Sicma Aero Seat.

I am assuming therefore, that the Emirates J on their A380 is the one in the top right corner of the picture found below:

Nevertheless, I'd bet that it's the Emirates new J

Does this mean JFK will have 2x daily flights, instead of the current 3x? The larger plane could make up for the capacity lost from EK 204/205. Great to finally know when the first A380 will arrive in NYC !

wow!

I knew that JFK will eventually get an EK A380, but i did not know JFK was to be the 1st!

Looks like i need to book my first A380 flight ASAP.

As for the J class seats, yes they look fantastic, however, adding yet another configuration to the thousands more that have come to be the norm at EK.

The business class seats are marketed under the name "majesty"? Jeez, who thinks up this stuff? That is hilarious! I always find it interesting the sorts of names companies come up with to identify their products.

Nice to see the 380 is coming to the US!

Looks that way...

After all - the JFK-HAM-DXB flight departed 15 minutes after the new A380 flight....

Also EK are desperate for aircraft

They seem to be sending the A345 which operated the JFK-HAM-DXB flight to PER anyone know where the second A345 is coming from to operate the other DXB-PER?

Wow never would of thought the first EK 380 flight would be to JFK. But I guess it makes sense with the nice loads that Ek has been getting over there.

Any idea of whether the number of fligts will increase ... now that the HAM-JFK flight has been cut?

First, good to hear that EK is going to 'jump into' the long haul market with their first A380. Wow! I expected LHR to be first, but could it be a gate issue? (Notice I'm asking. When does EK move to T3 at LHR?)

Quoting EmiratesUK (Reply 16):

Also EK are desperate for aircraft

That is something most of the EK detractors do not realize. They have more demand for their product than they can deliver. So EK is playing a huge game to re-allocate airframes as fast as possible. The A380 delays have crimped the expansion plans of every A380 launch customer. Thus we have had a shortage of long-haul seats as airlines wait for their new airframes. Now that the A380 is entering the fleet (and soon the 788), we'll see some interesting new hubbing.

And when it comes to the A380... we'll be discussing EK quite a bit!  bigthumbsup   duck  That includes the completion schedule of concourse 3 with those 27 A380 gates.  wideeyed

It is going to be interesting to watch the order of A380 service around the world. QF chose LAX first, but I find it very interesting that SQ picked SFO... Is that a non-stop or via Taiwan or Tokyo?

The SQ SIN-HKG-SFO is currently a 747-400. That will eventually become an A380. However, they are flying to NRT first, so they might as well do the 747 SIN-NRT-LAX on the A380.

This is great news as safety appears to now have a higher importance than revenue - this is in regard to the lack of crew rest facilities currently on this 12 hr route. Pursers scared of losing their jobs for letting crew 'sleep' in Y seats can now breathe a sigh of relief. And pax feel safe with a crew that is awake for landing.

Does T4 have jetbridges for the A380, meaning double floor boarding. As far as I know T4 actually only had one jetbridge per gate?

Interestingly enough the A380 was not tested at Terminal 4 when it visited back in March, you think it would have been a good idea!

The terminal definitely has A380 capable stands but only has one gate with two jetways located at the end of concourse B, gate 7 I think.

Yeah, it seams staggered like BA and some others.

It was said above that there would be a small J section on the main deck. Any idea on how large? How does this work with the whole "board the premium from a separate lounge onto a separate deck" scheme?

I can't remember how many were on the lower deck.. as for loading.. I guess they will load all UD F&J via the upper deck bridge..

LD J will be loaded via door 1 bridge and Y via the second lower deck bridge. offering

How is that silly? For all I know, it is quite customary to sell tickets for scheduled flights as much as 12 months ahead of time.

EK's first A380 had its first flight more than three months ago. See: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1261148&size=L

Three more EK A380s are in various stages of completion, at least two of them have been spotted completely assembled, if still without engines at that time. (More details on Flightblogger, see: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/fl...hanging-gears-a380-production.html )

So, unless there is a major fire in Toulouse destroying several planes, or something like this, where's the risk for EK?

The thing is, it was a test flight of LH and they are located at T1, hence the plane docked there. T4 has generous space unlike T1 where every mm is needed to avioid a collision, so I gues it involves less hastle and shouldn't be a big problem. However maybe EK or Airbus will have a test flight to JFK to test Terminal docking etc for all other Terminals that would see A380s in the future.

Seems to me no one else had a problem with that sentence. From that I would deduce your reading comprehension is lacking, and/or you're just looking for a reason to flame someone. It's common sense that I would be talking about JFK in terms of EK, because #1, that's what the original post is about, and #2, EK doesn't currently fly to LAX. So this begs the question as to why you thought I was talking about LAX in the first place. You read something into what I said that wasn't there.

Honestly guy, you made a mistake and you were unclear all in one sentence. Further I did NOTHING to insult you in any way in my response to that statement.

Again, no one else had a problem with that sentence. YMMV.

Actually, I scrolled up searching for some "EK about to fly to LAX" statement after reading your sentence; it was quite easy to misunderstand, IMHO.
EKs new Etihad-like J class, if this is what it will be like, has me wanting to fly it really badly.

Easy to misunderstand, ok. But he was attempting to correct me on something I didn't actually say, as in just what he read into it. Nowhere did I say EK was starting its 380 service to LAX.

Again, I thought it was pretty obvious that I was talking about JFK if you had taken the time to read the original post. Why would I have said EK was going to start flying the 380 to LAX when the original post clearly says the first 380 service will be on the JFK route. That makes no sense.

YOU MADE THE MISTAKE. YOU said SQ was coming to LAX. Mistake.

I got it first time. You make the connection to what 777STL was saying due to the title of the thread. Makes perfect sense.

They seem to be sending the A345 which operated the JFK-HAM-DXB flight to PER anyone know where the second A345 is coming from to operate the other DXB-PER?

The A345 is going to BNE as a non-stop from Feb 2008.

The other A345 from JFK will go to MEL in late 2008, making it triple daily.

I think SYD gets the first A380 in early 2009!

Am I to assume this will be using F-WWEA???

F-WWEA is an Airbus Test Aircraft for the time being and is going to Etihad AFAIK.

Emirates first A380 is MSN011 currently flying under test reg F-WWSH and will be registered as A6-EDA and made it's first flight on 4th Sept 2007.

Slightly OT but has anybody noticed that SQ had already modified their livery on the A380, they have moved the 'Singapore Airlines' titles more towards the nose, which means 9V-SKA and 9V-SKB will look differant.

I take it EK's A380 seats are being sold at a premium like SQ's? I guess if the money's there they have to grab it.

According to this article. apparently not.

Yep, I also reread the entire thread to find a mention of EK to LAX, only to find out there was none. I was excited that EK was coming to LAX with the A380, only to find out they were not. I also looked for information on SQ coming to LAX, since that would be something I would be interested in (SIN-NRT-LAX).

On a.net, new information is very often added within the body of the thread. To assume each person posting is referring only to the title of the thread is just nonsense.

I have no idea why 777STL is getting so upset to the point of calling me names. My original correction was not with malice nor did it have any condescension, but he has been full of both of the same since being corrected.

I am a professional writer. As a professional writer, I NEVER blame the reader if I am unclear, because it's my job to be clear. If something I write is misunderstood, especially due to a typo, it's my fault because I can't assume everyone can read my mind through the limitations of the printed word.

Had you written "First SQ to SFO, then QF to LAX, and now EK" there would be no confusion. Your mistake on the SQ lead to the confusion on the third part. If you honestly expect people to decipher which clauses of your sentences are just mistakes and which clauses have implied connection (not explicit) to the correct information in your sentences and have no connection to the mistaken information, you are asking far too much.
