Transaero 747s Parked At Filton

Sun Dec 16, 2007 12:46 pm

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a repeat thread; couldn't dig up anything via search though.

Driving past Filton (FZO) on the way to Cribbs Causeway for the dreaded Christmas shopping, I noticed 3 Transaero 747s (1 744) parked. I could have sworn that the 744 was ex-BA; blue RRs etc. Can anyone confirm the status of these birds?

ZSOFN,

They are the ex SAA RR powered B744 heading to Transaero.

One is VP-BKG 26637/943 ex N787MD/ZS-SAX

One of the others I believe is now registered VP-BVR unsure of it's c/n but again it's one of the ex SAA machines.

I saw VP-BVR in Transaero colours on 30/11/2007.

According to www.filton.flyer.co.uk it had been at Filton since late Nov.

- This is news, must have been asleep when this was announced. Transaero are building quite a fleet of 747's, where on earth are they going to fly all these birds?

I can't believe it either...especially since they are using a B763ER on their upcoming SVO-HKG-SYD flights.

Out of all the places those B744's could of gone, Transaero isn't one I would of picked!!

Seems a waste flying a B744 around Europe.

They are mainly using the 747s on holiday flights. There are huge numbers of Russians flying to Southwestern European holiday destinations and Turkey. So much so that in many places Russian is the no.3 of foreigners language after English and German.

I believe Transaero has filed to fly to the U.S., JFK, MIA, IAD and or LAX from their application. Surely
some of the big birds will be coming across the pond if/when they start these flights.
