BA B763 Stranded At ATH

Mon Dec 17, 2007 3:01 pm

I arrived from DUS - SKG to ATH on saturday with AEE and a BA B763 was at a remote parking position at ATH (which is VERY rare for BA to go to a remote stand). On sunday night I passed by the airport again and the aircraft was still there...

Anyone know what might have caused this?

If it was the same aircraft and wasn't moving then it may well have gone technical. From my experience, it's not uncommon for BA's 767 to have problems. At least on the inside they look and feel like they're falling apart.

It has got a technical problem with hydraulic pumps.
Bit complicated, pump u/s changed, relay changed, looking at wiring.

You guys are right, they are really falling apart.... I recently flew LHR - DUS with BA's B763 and it was terrible... it seriously brings down their image ALOT. Economy class was incredibly dirty, and its busniess was as if you were on a brand new B763. I think that is uncalled for...

I don't know which part of Club Europe you saw on the 767...certainly not the same ones I saw - front cabin still looking tatty and in desperate need of refreshment as the back of the plane!

Sounds like Air Canada's LHR-YHZ 763 flights. They're not XM yet and they feel tired and shoddy.

He is talking about the BA 767's that got the old Club World seats that were up until recently used on the 744's and still used on the 772's. And in my opinion better than the new ones now featured on all 744's but not yet installed on the 772 as the seat did not pass 3G testing.

I'm not sure how many BA 763's will receive the new seats but the ones flying MAN-JFK-MAN for sure.

This reminds me of the times when BA used to have L1011 Tristars. The last few years of commercial service, those poor birds frequently went AOG & the insides were falling apart.
BA has a habit of letting their aircraft's looks decay towards the end of their life. Their B737 fleet out of LGW looks terrible at the moment... Chipping paint etc.
Note that I said "looks" because technically, those A/C are still fine & safe as ever, but it's the looks of an aircraft that sell a company's image, not the stuff you don't see.

Its a real shame because the aircraft looks pretty new from the outside, but once you get inside... ewwww! I remember some Germna passengers sitting behind me,and they sounded very surprised by the state of the cabin... In this case, i'd rather fly U2 to Dortmund and get a brand new A319.

Yeah sure Not on a DUS-LHR sector he isnt - Two sub fleets of the 76's SH and LH.

Yeah sure Sorry Leo wrong again - none of the 767's will receive the new club world seats. All the long haul fleet recently were overhauled and were fitted with AVOD but thats as far as they go. As the last birds to be dusked the long haul 767's are pretty tidy, the short haul ones admittedly less so, but i believe they are due to be fitted with the new streamline seats in the new year which should bring about a cabin refit.

Shouldn't the new 787s coming off the line for BA -be used for the 767 replacement? I also recently seen somewhere before, a BA 767 TR. The Eco plus didn't seem to bad.
