Need Help With Plane Ident.

Sun Aug 27, 2000 11:58 pm

I'm trying to figure out what plane I saw recently. It has 4 engines mounted on the rear fueslage, and seemed either german or russian. The 4 engines were doubled in a 2-2 configuration.

I'm not an expert, but this is what a quick search in the A.N database turned up.
I hope it helps, anyway.

Best regards,

It a russian Il-62. It's a 186 seater long haul aircraft with the engine layout the same as the Vc-10.

That is actually the military version of the British Vickers VC-10. It has been claimed that Ilyushin, the Russian company that manufactures (manufactured?) the Il-62, copied their design from the VC-10. These planes are still in service with the British RAF as fuelers and troop transports, and possibly with a few other (probably commonwealth) nations.

Did you see the plane at MSP? Cause I saw the same thing at MSP, while taxiing for takeoff in a Sun Country 727.
