SQ To Go Double Daily To ZRH?

Tue Dec 18, 2007 3:00 am

I have read in the most recent issue of Jetstream the Swiss aviation magazine that SQ is considering to go double daily to ZRH four times per week in Summer 08?

Can anyone confirm this?

Would the outbound flight be during day time?

Mostly likely it would depart in the evening from Zurich......as they already have an afternoon departure.

SQ have a general shortage of capacity to Europe. I think increasing frequencies to daily where they are less than daily (as they are doing with MXP) makes the most sense, followed by opening up direct service to Star Alliance hub cities now served only by codeshare e.g. MUC, IST, WAW perhaps tagged from DXB. Of course, there will be some cases e.g. CDG and perhaps ZRH where increasing frequency beyond daily but less than twice daily makes sense.

I think so too.

And depart SIN mid-morning to arrive ZRH late afternoon and then back to SIN in the evening.

In my experience flights are always packed on that route and now that MH withdraws from ZRH there is even less capacity.

And according to Jetstream it's going to be 773ER as well

It would be good news for SQ and especially also for ZRH

SQ stopped serving IST?

SQ will increase flights to ZRH but till today my good source by SQ ZRH still does not know how many flights. She/He thinks it will be 10 flights per week.

Sorry for the lack of clarity on my part. SQ stopped nonstop service to IST; now it is only via DXB. I expect it to go daily nonstop after TK join Star Alliance, probably with a 777-200ER.

Currently:

1:05a SIN 3 7:30a ZRH SQ 346 Non-stop 77W 13:25
12:15p ZRH 7:05a+1 SIN 2 SQ 345 Non-stop 77W 11:50

I think it will probably be a morning departure, to capture the overnight flights ex-Australia and China/Asia.
Perhaps ...

0905 SIN - 1530 ZRH
2215 ZRH - 1705+1 SIN

The afternoon arrival into SIN allows connections onto the 1900 - 2200 departure bank to Australia and regional asia...

Completely agree. Any news regarding CPH going daily? It's been 3w for ages, and travel between Scandinavia and Asia/pacific has never been greater than now.

The outbound is more likely to be scheduled around 1pm, in line with the current LHR/FRA/CDG daylight departures. 9am only has a LHR departure, for the obvious overnight Australia connecting traffic, but this flight misses most regional connections.

I also wonder about this. I have flown this route, and it was jam-packed in both directions. Others have also told me that when they flew SQ between CPH and SIN their flights were pakced too. After SAS stopped serving SIN, there must be a great opportunity for SQ to go daily. After all, lots of companies in Scandinavia do business with Singapore - and many of these companies would provide high-yield traffic. Travel between Scandinavia and Australia is also extremely popular nowadays, and flying SQ is probably the most comfortable way to get Down Under!

With SQ taking delivery of four WhaleJets and eight 777-300ERs in 2008 while retiring a handful of JumboJets, the capacity crush caused by the WhaleJet delays should be eased significantly. I expect SQ to increase frequency to CPH in 2008, probably to daily.

SQ flights to several European destinations seem to be packed all the time and seem to yield good money with lots of potential business class passengers for SQ. So the question is, why doesn't SQ increase their frequencies (or only slowly)? If they won't, then for sure EK and other mid eastern carriers will. Why is SQ less aggressive compared to them for gaining market share?

Sounds good, and makes perfectly sense with the arrival of the A380, freeing up capacity elsewhere.

EK will eventually fly to CPH, but they don't seem to be in a hurry. Now SK has taken the first step with a seasonal CPH-DXB. Will be interesting to see wether this route remains seasonal or not.

Another carrier with a significant stake in the CPH puddle is TG. They are flying a full 744 everyday to BKK, and has aired interest in increasing frequency - maybe with a tag-on to OSL for the additional frequencies.

2008 will definitely be interesting!

SQ have a short-term capacity shortage.

The four new WhaleJets will probably replace JumboJets about one for one. The capacity increase in 2008 will come primarily from the eight new 777-300ERs freeing up 777-200ERs for expansion.

If TG want to expand capacity beyond a daily 747-400 to CPH, then SQ should easily be able to make a 777-200ER work daily once they have the aircraft available.

A 2100 departure from ZRH will mean a 1500 arrival into SIN. That's a bit early for the Australia/NZ departures ex SIN that leave between 8.35pm and 9.30pm? Won't they be better to shift the ZRH departure to 2300?

That would be quite close to the night curfew at ZRH. No departure later than 2300 local, currently. The last aircraft is usually scheduled to leave around 2245. Maybe shifting one hour would make sense. If you take FRA as a reference, the late SQ departure there leaves at 2200.

TKfan - Anything about frequencies? How many flights per week will they add? Three, four, seven?

Cheers

HB - looks like you were spot on.

Re: early arrival into SIN, eg. prior to 1700-1800 window suitable for onward connections to Australia etc.
is this perhaps due to slot restrictions at SIN? are there restrictions?

or perhaps to make connections to 1630-1730 departure bank to China and other regional markets?
