"Iberia 757" Business Config

Thu Dec 20, 2007 3:15 pm

Any reason for the seemingly extreme 19 rows of biz on the Iberia (Audeli/Gestair) 757s? Are the routes they're used on really necessary for that amount of business seating?

Could anyone check how many pax booked for IB151 and IB3166 tomorrow?

Thanks  Smile

I flew on an IB 757 operated by Audelli on the MAD-TFN route. It was an aircraft swap due to MX on one of their A343 that was supposed to fly to Latin America, so they pulled the A343 from our route (MAD-TFN) and brought a 757 to do the MAD-TFN-MAD morning leg (at leasat that is what the captain told me when I asked him whay they had changed the Airbus from our route).

Well, of course, they imediatelly oversold our flight and had to change the plastic bins that separate the Business cabin from the main cabin. Yes, the entire airplane is configured in a 3-3 layout in one class only separated by a plastic bin as many airlines do in Europe. So to answer your question, they can make the entire airplane business class if they want. That day I was operationaly upgraded because I am a One World Elite with American Airlines and there was an empty seat in business an nothing left in coach, and the only thing they told me was that they didn't know if they had enough food for the business passengers. They also left the middle seat empty, as that is the only thing they do with that 3-3 config. to change it to 2-2.

Hope this helps.

Do the seats not expand like BA Club Europe? If all they do is block the middle seat of 3, then surley the seat itself has no more width or pitch?

No, they do not expand as BA's Club Europe. They only block the middle seat an they don't have more width or pitch.

As skyone explained very well, the short/medium haul has a unique cabin with a mobile curtain that separates business class and tourist class, and which is adapted in each flight in order to convert an Economy row into a Business Class one. The curtain can me moved up to a certain row.

The first rows have more pitch: 34'' instead of 31''. However, I don't know for the case of the 757s, since they have the old cabin (and they won't be refurbished, as Iberia is leaving one aircraft at the end of 2007, and the other remaining one in february, if I am not mistaken). However, and I'm not very sure of this, Iberia has business class pitch in the rows 1, 2,...up to 7. (Actually, there is a door that separates both "cabins".

Despite of this, I find the B757 the most cramped IB aircraft. (The MDs, on the contrary, are very roomy!) I always "disliked" the B757 in IB colours. On the contrary, I like the A321!

That's right.

No, they don't. The seats are fixed, but the first rows are just a bit better than the others, as I said before. The main change is in service.

I can't tell you precise information because I don't have it, but, (a) the A321 can have from 171 to 200 seats, and only 16 are free (business + some full economy fare); and (b) the B757 has from 183 to 200 seats, and less than 20 seats are free.

I hope you enjoy the flights, which will be almost fully booked. On top of that, we won't probably see an IB 757 anymore, so it will be a special flight.

Will you take photos and/or write a review? It would be great. Are you flying business class or your question was asked by curiosity?

I advise you to print the boarding pass through Iberia.com: you will skip overbooking and you'll be able to select your seat.

Good luck!

Thanks GatoVador! Yep I'm flying business, have already selected my seats online. Went for the first row on the 321 and the first exit row on the 757 - should be good  Smile

There won't be a review, at least no chance of one with pics anyway, as my camera is back in the UK. Sorry!
