LED Mood Lighting On Delta 777-200LRs?

Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:06 pm

I was wondering if anyone would know this. I have been wondering whether Delta plans to include LED mood lighting on their 777-200LRs. I know that it is now an option on the 777-200LR and 777-300ER, and I would think it would be nice if Delta chose to go with that feature. Air Canada's 777-200LRs and 777-300ERs feature it:

To go back and MOD their current aircraft.....??? Doubtful..... it would cost $10's of thousands per plane to go back and do that. PLUS.... there must be a SB or EO to even allow you to do that.

Good thing the OP didn't ask about doing that then.

He is asking about the 8 new 77Ls coming DL's way starting this year. My guess is yes, they will have it. But it's just a guess.

Exactly. Of course Delta won't upgrade the 777-200ERs to them. However, they did get cooler white fluorescent lights.

And not all 777NGs feature mood lighting. I don't think AF's 77Ws feature it.

Boeing now also offers an option not to include center bins on the First/Business class section on the 777;

However, I have heard at Flyertalk, Delta's 777-200LRs will include center bins for the BusinessElite section.

However, I also wonder if Delta will include gasper vents on their 777-200LRs. Gasper vents on 777s are a rarity, and Delta is one of very few airlines who has them on their 777-200ERs.

I flew a AC B767-300ER that got XM in business class and they still got the center bins. So, that literally means that you got a a bin for each passenger! (2 on the side with one seat per row). Any reasons why an airline would not include bins in the middle for J class?

Perhaps to save weight. The outer bins are larger than the center bins, and since there are fewer seats, it might be better to leave them out if passengers won't use them over the larger outer bins.

BTW, AC's 777NGs were ordered with the center bins. I don't think I have ever seen a 767 without them.

well, with large suite products like on SQ's J class, there aren't many seats per row and there is storage at the seat itself.

Do the Contour Premium sleeper suites have a zone for storage? As I stated earlier, a user at Flyertalk told me that they will feature center overhead bins.

On some early widebodies such as some DC-10s and L-1011s, there were no center overhead bins in any class. With people now carrying more luggage, this mandated the move for aircraft manufacturers to include them. I know Delta's L-1011-1s did not feature center bins, while the -500s did. I think the L-1011-250s, since they were converted L-1011-1s, were retrofitted with center bins.

Yes I remember many flights on early DC-10s and L1011s without the center bins. They made the cabin seem much more spacious, which is also one reason why some carriers don't have center bins in first class cabins. Of course the original roomy 8-abreast 2-4-2 Y class seating on the early DC-10s and L1011s, as in the photo below, also made them feel much more spacious. And seat pitch was at least 34 inches then.
