Iberia 737-300

Thu Aug 31, 2000 3:24 am

Hello,

Iberia leased three Boeing 737-300s in 1988 for a short time.

Could anyone tell me when they gave them back to the leasers (which was?)?

On what routes did they operate them and why did lease them please?

I think they were operated by Iberia's then charter subsidiary Viva Air, as a stop-gap until the first MD-87s were delivered.

Viva Air

Thu Aug 31, 2000 3:59 am

Hello,

On 24 February, Iberia and Lufthansa start the charter airline Vuelos Internacionales de Vacanciones, S.A. (Viva Air). Both airlines owned more than 48% of Viva Air, and the rest (a bit more than 2%) was owned by private Spanish investors.

Any information about this airline please? Still operating?

Best regards,

Viva Air started in 1988, during the first season they had three B737-300, the year after five. In 1992 IBERIA overtook the whole Viva Air, from 1992-1995 they also made scheduled flights.
Than they concentrated on the charter market but made heavy losses, in 1997 and 1998 some 30 mio EUR. So IBERIA decided to cancel all Viva Air services in November 1998; planes, routes and staff was overtaken by IBERIA.

Viva Air does not operate any longer. They had some 733s.
However, Iberia still does operate some 733s leased from Air Europa, which are being (or will be) returned to the leaser as the 32x fleet is being increased.
