As far as I know they just had the DC-10 while they were waiting for their TriStar's. I think once they got the L-1011's in they took the DC-10(s) out of service.

The A310s were inherited from PanAm, for the most part, and were in pretty deplorable mechanical and cosmetic condition. Delta received a few A310s new from Airbus as well. The A310 proved to be costly and complicated to maintain, so Delta got rid of them. Where they went, I have no idea.

As far as the DC-10s, I don't think they were interrim aircraft as Iwantanl1011 stated - I've heard differently, but can't quite remember exactly what the situation was. I think these aircraft were also inherited; there were VERY few of them and they have also gone off to parts unknown. Probably for lack of fleet commonality, much like the A310s.

Anyone know anything more?

The DC-10s were from the Western merger and most of them went to United.

Delta's original DC10s were purchased at an insurance against late delivery of the L1011's. At the time Lockheed's & Rolls-Royce's financial postion's were looking rather perilous.

Delta Air Lines DC-10-10, N914WA (msn 47832). Although Delta went for the L-1011 instead of the DC-10 in the 1970s they once operated a small fleet of DC-10s, here exemplified by N914WA taxiing at Los Angeles. This particular aircraft is now in service with the Danish charteroperator Premiair as OY-CNU and a photo of her in her new colourscheme can be viewed

Yes. Just to clarify there were two sets of DC-10's. Some in the early 70's that every one is talking about and some came from Western. The ones that came later had the rounded off black nose and I believe the earlier ones just had the blue stripe end at the cockpit and no black rounded nose.
