Air France Crash

Today Air France Lost there 3rd 747.

The accident happened in India, where the aircraft a 747-200F was landing and somehow the front landing gear collapsed, or did not deploy or lock. The aircraft caught fire on the runway and all the crew was saved by the fire fighters over there, by breaking the cockpit glass. This is the 3rd Air France 747 lost. The 1st was in june 12 '75 (fire, aborted take off) the 2nd was in Dec. 2 '85 (ran of runway).

In total there are 27 total airframe write-offs.

Does any body know what the registration is on this aircraft?
When it was built?

I think there maybe more then just a nose wheel collapse. I just heard about it on the news and that is what they said. The reason I doubt the nose wheel theory is that most pilots manage to get the planes down with landing gear failure and I am not sure how it caught on fire as that does not normally happen even though it sparks.
Well maybe it was as it landed in India and they did not foam the runway and I do not think there crash srews are as good as they are in Europe and the US.
But the main thing is everyone was OK so who really cares about the plane!!!

This is the second Air France B 747 to be destroyed by fire in India.Around 15 years ago a 747 was destroyed whilst taxying in Bombay (Mumbai) due to overheated brakes.

Everyone talks but never answers to others questions.

Drew, the registration was F-GPAN, year built 1978, C/n 21515/337.

Air France flight 6745 had taken off from Paris and was on its way to Chennai after some enroute stops at Karachi and Bangalore. The cargo plane carried 66 tonnes of cargo, that included three foreign cars, 20 tonnes of ITC cigarettes, chemicals and garments. The aircraft was cleared for a Runway 07 ILS approach, but the approach was abandoned due to 'technical difficulties'. The pilot reported he would circle for another approach. This time the aircraft touched down but the nose struck the runway, because the nosegear was not down (or not locked). The plane skidded and came to rest at 7000ft down the runway (which is 13050ft long). As the pilot informed the ATC of the mishap, he noticed smoke in the cockpit. Even as the smoke was being extinguished, flames erupted in the front portion of the aircraft. One of the crewmembers came down through a rope ladder from the cockpit, the other four were brought down through the rear of the aircraft using the fire engine step ladders. The fire services were not able to extinguish the fire and the plane burned out completely.

How did you conclude some people in this forum are lazy?
Also the reason we had not answered the question is we did not know. And the reason we posted our messages is as this forum is called a discussion forum not a question and answer forum. So we were discussing that flight even though we could not help him out with his question.

It's because I see people making questions "What's the larger plane, the 767-200 or the A300? (This is an example).
You all know that in internet you have information for all subjects so, just make a little research and you'll find the answer for yourself. I think you learn more this way because while you're researching, you'll pass throw many other relationed subjects and will learn about other things you wouldn't be expecting.

Then, there are people who reply to everything, just to be present, even without adding nothing interesting.

Mirage I agree with you that with less then 15 minutes of surfing they could find the info out. I just felt you were calling me lazy and I could not work out why.

They rescued the 5 member crew from an explosive situation! What more do you want ?! And what do you base your judgement of Indian crash crew effectiveness on?

Well, obviously Air France-Asia Cargo has a problem - this is the third 747 that they'vew lost in India. So they're probably operating old/faulty equipment on these sectors.
