When Will Delta Retire Its 727s And L10's?

Sun Sep 03, 2000 4:48 am

Just wondering when Delta plans to complete the retirement of the 727-200's and the L1011's? They're great planes and I hate to see them go.

I just talked with a L-1011 captain today- He reports Aug 2001 and the last route will be ATL-HNL.. But Delta wants them out even sooner so who knows-- keep your fingers crossed.. maybe someone high up in Delta will have a revelation of some sort and decide to keep them...   Delta want's all 2-man aircrafts-- more "cost effective"..

One interesting side note: The captain said Lockheed offered DAL to refurb the L-1011 with Glass Cockpits for about 10 million per A/C but Delta said nah.

yeah i guess thats economics and time but i think it's a shame, to me they are really one of a kind a/c (both 27's and L10's). I'm just glad I got to fly on both of them often before it's too late!
