Rotting Planes, A Sad Sad Caravelle

Sun Sep 03, 2000 9:34 am

In my bordem I took a drive down to Tucson Int'l today... while driving down Country Club by the cargo ramp I saw a Caravelle.

It is still there. Still rotting away.

Here is the history on this plane... it is N1002U, Ville de Cahors. The second Caravelle VI-R delievered to United in June, 1961. It was retired in May, 1970. Does anyone know what happened to this poor bird between 1970 and its present state here in Tucson.

A very useful book.
Jet Airliner Production List, volume 2 (vol 1 is Boeing).

There are similar books for Piston & Turbine airliners and the only problem is that they go out of date so quickly.

The publisher is the
Aviation Hobby Shop in West Drayton,Middlesex UK
Fax quoted is 01895 421412 but as the UK is perpetually changing their area phone codes I cannot guarantee it.

I loved this thread.New insight! Sad picture though.
As you may gather, Caravelle took me on my first jet flight.
