-- Utahn CEO To Introduce Home Town To New Airline And Low Fares --
New York, NY (September 5, 2000) –
JetBlue Airways today announced that on November 17 it will commence a daily, non-stop red-eye flight between New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport.
“It’s great to be home. Of all the new services we’ve launched this year, this is the most personally satisfying,” said David Neeleman, CEO of JetBlue Airways. “Salt Lake City is where I grew up, where I met my wife, and where I found my first success in the airline industry, with Morris Air. It’s very rewarding to be here with JetBlue, again bringing low fares and great airline service to the people and the city that have shown me so much support.”
JetBlue’s fares on the nonstop service between New York City and Salt Lake City will range from $99 to $249 each way. At $99, JetBlue’s lowest one-way fare is up to 84% less than the regular advance purchase one-way fares of other airlines. And at $249, the airline’s highest one-way fare is as much as 75% less than the equivalent fare on other carriers serving the route nonstop.
JetBlue’s other fares between New York City and Salt Lake City are $129, $159, $179 and $199 each way. No advance purchase is necessary for any of these fares, but seats are limited so early booking is recommended.
The airline’s regular daily schedule will be as follows:
New York/JFK to Salt Lake City
Depart - Arrive
8:05pm - 11:05pm
Salt Lake City to JFK
Depart - Arrive
11:55pm - 6:00am (next day)
(Please note, however, that for the November 17 inaugural flight only, the flight will depart JFK at 6:40pm and arrive in Salt Lake City at 9:40pm.)
JetBlue currently flies to seven cities from its base at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The airline serves: Buffalo, NY, with five flights daily; Fort Lauderdale, FL and Orlando, FL each with four flights daily; Tampa, FL, with three flights daily; and Los Angeles’ Ontario International Airport and Oakland International Airport in the San Francisco Bay area, each with one flight daily.
The airline will begin twice daily service from JFK to Burlington, VT on September 7 and daily service from JFK to West Palm Beach, FL on October 18, increasing to two daily flights on November 18. Also, on November 18, JetBlue will launch a daily flight from JFK to Fort Myers, FL.
Round-trip connecting service via JFK will be available between Salt Lake City and Buffalo and Rochester, NY with one-way fares as low as $129 and between Salt Lake City and Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach, FL with one-way fares starting at $169.
JetBlue operates a fleet of brand new, environmentally-friendly Airbus A320 aircraft, outfitted with roomy all-leather seats and equipped with LiveTV, offering 24-channel satellite television, at every seat. LiveTV is available free of charge to all JetBlue passengers. The airline will serve 12 cities with 10 new aircraft by the end of the year.
With JetBlue, seats are assigned, all travel is ticketless, all fares are one-way, and a Saturday night stay is never required. For more information, schedules, and fares, please visit our website at http://www.jetblue.com

I see this as a prudent idea. I knew that Neeleman was from Salt Lake City, but from a business perspective with the Olympics coming... As everyone knows the Olympics are a cash cow for those that can get in on it.
