Nusantara N2135 Jet

Wed Sep 06, 2000 8:23 pm

whats the status of the Indonesian Nusantara N2135 jet? is it being produced? I saw a picture of it posted out side the Indonesian consulate in Karachi and it was beautiful, a mix of the 737 and A320 but much better looking with A330/340 style winglets, hope it takes to the skies.

p.s is it N2315 or 2135?

The N2135 project was killed due to a lack of funding. During the economic crisis, IPTN (the Indonesian aircraft manufacturing company, which has recently been renamed) was labeled by IMF officials, dominated by Europeans and fellow Americans (surprise, surprise), as government waste. They assumption was that it is an aircraft nobody would ever buy, so there was no need to produce it (and extra competition for Airbus and Boeing) while the country was in such disrepair.

Right now, it can be considered dead. However, the expected scrapping of IPTN ended up not happening. The company still produces aircraft and aircraft parts, including some for European and American manufacturers. It is undergoing privitization and restructuring, so, if there is actually a need for a new single aisle when they are back on their feet, it is a possibility.

You can get info at the iptn website, as well as N2135 screensavers. I have a feeling this project will be a top priority once Indonesia begins to realize its economic potentials again.

Actually, the real name should be N2130. Yes, the project was killed a few years back due to the economic crisis and lack of funding.

There was a joke in Indonesia saying that the 2130 is an acronym for 2 pilots, 1 technician, 3 flight attendants, and 0 passengers

Thats really sad, trust the western powers to do such a thing , I hope the Indonesian Govt. revives the project and it proves to be successfull beyond expectations, cant other Asian A/C manufacturers team up and help in its production, including the Russians. What about the propellered Nusantara? is that in service I know that during the axed Pakistani P.M Benazier's visit to indonesia, she had ordered 15 of the type to replace PIA's F-27 fleet , but i guess it was cancelled.

I believe Two types of the propellered Nusantara aircraft are currently in service now in Indonesia. The CN235 and the N250. But I think the production has been discontinued ever since the economic crisis and the changing of the government.
