BA/klm-merger/SR-AA

Thu Sep 07, 2000 5:33 pm

A newspaper report stated that KLM and BA would agree to give up Buzz, KLM's low cost airline, and rethink the agreement for BA and AA. BA would think about giving up AA, probably thus in favor of Northwest Airlines, although that airline doesn't fly on LHR. This could be good news for the Qualiflyer Group, which would make them AA's prefered partner in Europe. SR, SN, TP an Turkish already signed code share agreements with AA and SR, SN and AA received anti-trust immunity late July.

But what about Oneworld though? I think that the toughest part is getting AA out of Oneworld. AA is a major player in Oneworld and have alliances with AerLingus,LanChile,CathayPacific,Iberia,Finnair and Cathay Pacific. So I think that none of this will happen since Oneworld is tightly knit and I think that BA won't favor NW since AA is supposedly a lot better airline(i have never flown NW) and AA is a bigger airline with a younger fleet so I don't think AA and BA will end. But if it does happen and AA joins Qualiflyer, will SR ,TP, and all the other Qualiflyer members fly to dallas
seriously I would doubt it but Sabena already started sending their own jets to dallas though but i think it is 50/50 and anything could happen.
