Your Dream Personal Aircraft...

Fri Sep 08, 2000 12:59 am

If you could have any aircraft in the world for your personal use which one would it be? I would have a Boeing 707-320C (-321, -323, -324, -327, -331) because of its size and range, and because I think the 707-320C is a great jetliner.

Safire S-26 Personal Jet piloted by yours truly if we are being semi-realistic.

Go to to find out what one is!

The other aircraft I would love would be a 767-200 with spacious seating and a bed.

Keep Dreamin'! Y'all are saying. Pipe Dream or WHAT?

Being real (and still pretty rich), I'd like a Boeing Business Jet. My dream: a 777-300ER.

Considering the types of places I would want to go mostly within U.S.: 737-700, can fly into smaller airports, good range and ETOPS if I wanted to go to say Hawaii.

My DREAM aircraft has to be a 777-100. That's a 777LR shrink that never got off the drawing board.

Realistically, the closest I'll get to flying an airplane for awhile is driving fast in my new car (which isn't exactly a huge letdown for me). I can't wait until I get it in November!

But when I go back to school at Cal I should be able to get a US Navy ROTC scholarship, which also provides me with my shot at getting into the cockpit.

GO BEARS!

Assuming money is no object, of course

Long trips: 777-300ER

Closer to home: CRJ-700/900 or DeHavilland Dash 8 Q400

I would like a 777-200ER or -300ER because of its range and it would be retrofitted to have aerial refueling. It willl have TV and Internet access!

TriStar for sure... I'm sure there's something creative
one could do with that lower galley...

Slightly closer to reality (but not much closer)...
I'd take a Farchild/Swearingen Merlin III-- love that plane

I would love to have an Airbus A330-243 or -343. If not one of those, than a 777-200ER.

I'd like a 747-400. Put a bedroom in the nose, then have a room with a big screen TV, some sofas, and a few AA or BA first class seats. I would also have a big dining room.

I would say that my dream 'plane would be an MD-11 with a kitchen, bathroom with a tub, large entertainment centre, sofa, and maybe...40 first class seats in the back. The interior would be dark blue and grey. As far as the paint job goes, I would prefer no paint like American or Flying Tigers.

What fun is a plane that you can't fly... so here goes.
For the price of those super fancy widebodies I will get...
A new Cessna CJII
A Piper Malibu Mirage
An old Beech Staggerwing
A classic, early 60's model, model 35 Bonanza.
A Mooney TLS
A Lake Turbo Amphibian
A Cessna 425 Conquest I
A Beech B200 Super King Air
A Citation 500SP with full Eagle mods
A Cessna A-37
hmmmm... am I getting close to the cost of a custom 777 yet??

Let's see oh yeah, a new Cessna T206 Turbo Stationair.
And... hmmmm...
can't think of any more right now.

Of course I'm going to be unrealistic here... but there's a difference on how unrealistic I get

The more unrealistic idea:
I thought about a 747, but I wouldn't really know what to do with all the space. So I'll get a 777-200ER.
in the following order from front to back:
bedroom, living room, bathroom, galley
- bathroom with a couple windows; lavatories with plenty of space
- large galley towards the back of the plane, shaped like the large rectangular block seen on some 743s
- entertainment in living room with a couple couches. Internet access!!!!
- plenty of space to walk around in, at least near the doors
- different lighting from original design.

What can I do with those crew rest things overhead guys? be creative!   and... safety belts in bed, anyone?   I should draw my idea out on using a modified seat map or something.

The more realistic idea:
one of the business jets. Get a shower, larger lavs, larger galley, bed, a couple first class seats from AA or someone.

I'd keep my plane white or something... if I must choose from liveries, it'll be CP (proud wings). that on a 777

I'm with you, Classic707 ... I've always dreamed of flying in a "classic 707" - and turbojet-powered at that. Therefore I'd say the 707-320 Intercontinental. Are there any airworthy examples still intact someplace? But then again, I'm also a big DC-8 enthusiast and have been for about 20 years ... so I'd have to say my next choice would be a DC-8-50. In an ideal world, everyone would be an airplane enthusiast and we'd have no need for noise regulations!!
May the wind be always at your back . . . except during takeoff & landing.

B757 with ER tanks.

Big enough to make global trips, but small enough to get into some of the smaller airports with no special ground equipment needed.

Some loud planes but very cool looking ones to start off with. That would be the B747-SP fitted with RR engines (like those of Qantas) and a Fokker F-28 4000.

For luxury I would probably get the MD-11 and BBJ.

For speed it would have to be the Concorde

Since there's no possibility of this happening, I'll go for broke.....a 747 Cargo and I'd outfit the upper deck for travel and keep a Sikorski in the cargo hold so I can get around easier when I land.

Seriously fellas, what would you do with a 747 or 777, or any jet like that?. How about something you can actually use?

In the future, I plan to aquire a C172 or a 152. It will probably be in joint ownership.

This way I can actually use it, and at the same time make money by letting other people use it. Atleast that way It wont cost me 10000 dollars in landing and parking fees, not to mention fuel.

Ultimate dream would be to get a Cessna Citation of some description. But I admit that is a dream.

My user name says it all. A brand spanking new Ilyushin IL96M, complete with the lower lobe entry doors/airstairs from the IL86. Interior - tasteful decor with emphasis on comfort and ambiance (lots of burled walnut, deep pile carpeting, fine interior fittings) full business class seating section for up to 50 passengers, king-sized bed, fully equipped galley, entertainment system, lavish shower/bath facilities, full dining area...the works! Hell, I could get one for about the price of a BBJ!

More realisticly, I would like my classic favorite, a mothballed DC 9 30 and convert it from a passenger jet into a flying home........but if I ever got enough dough, I would immediately go for either a A 320 or a A 319! =)

An Ilyushin 96M airframe with PW 2337 turbofan engines, Rockwell/Collins avionics (777 package) and wiring, Boeing undercarriage, painted and outfitted in executive configuration at Tel Aviv, Israel and registered in Panama. Also a compartment in the very lower aft with a large viewer window much like what is found on the lower aft of the KC-10.

Hi,

I'd go for the Gulfstream V (Speed and Range) - If I were really really rich, I might go for the A340-500 (nice range) and I would live in it.

With a name like 'Superfly', you can imagine what my jet would look like!

It would be a 747-100. It would have deep shag carpeting, lounges, stained glass mirror squares on some of the walls. Beads hanging in the door-ways between different sections. It would have an area for a small jazz-funk band to play with a lit dance-floor and a disco-ball hanging from the ceiling.
In the rear, I would have a jacuzzi and of course, private sleeping quarters.   In the front of the aircraft is were the 'Velvet Lounge' would be located and possibly a floor to ceiling aquarium. I am not sure if that would be possible or not for flight. Upstairs would be strictly for adult entertainment.
The outside of my jet would look similar to American Airlines old 747s. The 747 used in the movie Airport '77 comes close to what my 747 would look like.

I'd really like an MD-90, especially because it has the powerful V2500 engines, but I'd go for a 717. There is probably someone that makes extended range tanks for them, and you can get into relatively short fields. Plus, it's engines are pretty powerful, and the DC-9s have always handled more like fighters than transports. I'd have at least two staterooms, full galley, 8 first class seats in club configuration, and full Internet/satellite capabilites in my private office. But the interior would be very luxurious.

Well unlike most of the ideas above, I really have no need for a big long wide one!

My choice is quite modest, An Emberer ERJ145 will do just fine!

Although I believe Emberer is going to offer an Executive version of it's 135, and that would appeal a great deal too.
