Sat Sep 09, 2000 4:50 am

Are there any summer or part-time jobs a person can get at an airport, a high school student such as me. Thanks for any help.

Hey. I am 16 and I had a summer job at my local airport in Connecticut. I was an airplane washer/detailer. I washed, waxed, and detailed many new Pipers and Citation jets during the summer. This job has now changed for me and I am now working weekends during the school year as a Line Guy. I wash planes on the side, but now I tow, direct planes to parking, and fuel planes, among other odd jobs. So as you build experience and show that you are a good worker, you can start at a plane washer or something and work your way up. Thats how it worked out for me anyway. Good luck.

Yes there are summer jobs available all you have to do is go looking for them or be lucky like myself and know somebody who already works there. I'm a university student that worked at Pearson International this summer in Toronto as a Ramp Attendant. Though not in high school I did work with a few students that were, so the possibility is there. I got to do all the ground servicing that you would suspect while an aircraft is parked at the terminal. We mainly worked on large aircraft like 747's 767's and A340's. It was a blast and I can't wait to do it again next summer.

Good luck

Hi, I'm 17 and this summer II worked at the Duty Free shop here at STR airport in Germany.
It was kinda fun since I could see all the planes through the big windows on the other side of the hallway.

Dvmpaunch: I also live in Toronto, I am a high school student 15 years old. Who did you apply to for this job? Is it only a summer thing or do they have part-time weekend jobs too? Thanks for any info.

I worked for Ogden Aviation in Toronto and they are in desperate need of workers. Lots of part time shifts available. You would either be working on cargo or passenger planes. Look them up in the phone book or yellow pages. If you find nothing email me and I will see if I can find their phone number.

Good Luck

Well, I found their website but I didn't look in the phone book yet.

Anyway, do you need past experience or pre-requsite knowledge for them to higher you? Also, is there a minimum age you have to be? And what does the job entail?

RE: Summer Job At An Airport For JAT

For JAT
You need NO past experience working there, just be prepared to lift 400-500 passenger bags a day! Lots of heavy lifting but you get to do lots of different things. For cargo you will be pushing "Cans" as we call it. Easy work just requires a little strong work. For passenger aircraft there is always bags to be lifted, cans to be loaded / offloaded lavs to be serviced etc...
Not sure of any are restrictions, I knew a guy there that was 16 though

Hope this helps
Regards

$8.65/hr to start, then if you get your DA (airport drivers license), you will also need a provincial drivers license then you get bumped to $9.00/hr
