Delta Did MSY-SAN Today

Sun Sep 10, 2000 4:50 am

Why did Delta fly a Boeing 757, flight 9850, nonstop from New Orleans to San Diego today? Chater? Testing the route?

I have no idea. I doubt it was testing the route unless it knew whether Southwest had amazing success on the newly introduced MSY-SAN route or not (I don't know if they did or not). It could have been a charter, but with summer winding down I don't know what for.

When did this flight leave MSY and arrive in SAN? I checked real-time flight tracking for both cities and the airline and could find no mention of a return flight.

Thanks for alerting me to this.

It was probably a football charter....who do the Saints play this week?

Good job, looks like your idea is correct, since the Saints play the Chargers at 4:15pm today. Must be a specially-configured charter, cause now I'm laughing at the thought of Willie Roaf (Saints lineman) trying to squeeze into 38B on a 75....LOL.

Yeah, the Saints are playing the Chargers, so it was sports charter. I'll see if there is a flight leaving for MSY tomorrow.

Actually, DL's charter flights are not specially configured. They are regular line aircraft. The 757's are configured with 24/156 or if it's DL's newer a/c..ships 699-6708 they are in the new configuration w/22 and 164 seats. The difference being primarily that there are no seat selections on the charter aircraft, and it is specially catered. Expect huge roast beef sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, dove ice-cream bars and plenty of bags of ice for players injuries in addition to Powerade. DL runs a lot of charters with otherwise idle aircraft over the weekends for baseball, football and college teams. The most popular is the 757, although a 767-200 was used to fly the Orioles down to Havana, this past spring.

I hate the Chargers and especially the Padres...I still can't get over 1984.

I don't know if its relevant, but presumably it is, the same flight number (DL9850) came back from SAN-MSY-ATL today, operated by a 757.

Just thought you might want to know.

Delta flight 9580 is scheduled to leave at 6:09 P.M. today from SAN going to MSY, arriving at 11:20. I watched the first half or so of the game, and I can;t believe the Saints came back to beat the Chargers after being down like 14 points! Well, there goes the season. Might as well wait till next year.

CstarU: Considering how well they have been doing lately when playing and trying to get a new baseball stadium, I don't have much faith in S.D. teams either!

The Saints do use Delta Air Lines for their charter flights to their away games. The flight to San Diego would have gone out yesterday, and will return to MSY late night tonight.

Off-topic P.S.: seems to me that both the Saints and Chargers play some pretty ugly games.

Off-topic P.P.S.: my wife went to college (Northeast LA)with ex-Chargers QB Stan Humphries.
