First Suite And New Business Class Seats...

Hi! I am wondering a few things...

1.) When will the fleet of wide bodies be 100% installed with First Suite?

2.) When will 100% of the 777-200's be installed with First Suite?

Are you talking about like a non-coach airline?! because, if you are... I can't think of why an airline would do that... and it would be like buying a Concorde ticket if they did!

the 767-200 will be retrofited with a new interior starting in the first quarter of 2001

DElta 777-XXX, what are you talking about? United is re-doing their business and first class seats on all their wide-bodied aircraft.That doesn't mean ANYTHING about coach, as they will stay the same. Where did you pull that concept from?!

Aspen1 - You said they will start retrofitting the 762s in the first quarter of 2001 (Jan. - Feb.), do you mean it will be completed in that time???

And any word on the 772???

UAL's fleet is being re-done, interior wise.

Currently the 737, and the 757 are being outfitted with the new first/coach seats. Expect those fleet types to be done is less than a year.

The 767 Fleet.
The 767-200 is going to have the interior re-done beginning next year. UAL has, I believe 18, 762s. It should take less than two days, or 24 hour maintence, they will be done most likly by April of '01.

The 767-300s: All complete

The 777 Fleet:
All of the international fleet should be done by the end of the year. Most are done already. Planes with the nose numbers that begin with 24XX and 26XX are complete.

The domestic fleet, is done. As new planes are added to the fleet, they are all getting the new seats, and new seat design.

The 747-400 fleet:
Statrted this year, expect to see it done by April of '01.

Does any one know is UAL is putting the PTV's on 744s in Economy? I know that they have them in Business and in First.

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Wow! Thank-you so much for the great answer!!! In answer to your question, the 767-300's (my favorite planes!!!) which have all been refitted with new First, Business, and Coach class, does have PTV's in coach. Usually, 744 are used on routes much longer than 763's (A 744 is used on ORD-HKG, while a 763 is used on MIA-S. America). Thus, the thinking of airlines is usually the longer trips deserves more. So I would assume that the 744's, while going through the re-fitting of first, Business, and coach class, will be givin PTV's in Coach. I am flying a 744 in April, and tell you if there are PTV's in Coach. On that trip I will be in Business, but I will check back there anyway. Just one more question...

1.) Why is it that all the 767-300, which are fitted with new First Class Seats, not have First Suite. I thought all wide-bodied First Class seats were going to be First Suite???

Here is a picture of the First Class Seats on a 767-300 (the NEW seatas). The only difference I see between a 767-300's NEW Business and First is that the First is automated, while the Business requires one to pull a swith and, lets say, puch qith your human power, to recline. Here is the pic...

As of now, the 744's will not receive PTV's in Economy for two reasons:
1) United does not feel it is losing a competitive edge over other carriers with PTV's in Economy
2) United feels that the money can be better spent elsewhere.

The 767-300 Newly designed First Class seats aren't much different than the Business Class Seats. I flew IAD-BRU r/t in First on the 763 in Aug. The only difference is the automated seat controls, maybe a bit more recline, and the video system that is "on-demand" something only found in First on the 763 and First Suite on 744s a 777s. The differences are very subtle. The 744s do not have any PTVs in Coach, nor do I think UA will ever install them there.

Many of the 777s are still flying with the ugly / old styled First and Business Class seats. I think they range from N766UA-N779UA.

The 763s operate on trips a lot shorter than the 777, or the 744. It would be a waiste of $$ to put the sleeper seats in. The trips that have 767s, flying international are, well, most everything from the east coast of the US, to Europe. From the west coast, its 777s. So a trip from SFo-LHR is 10+ hours, while one from JFK-LHR is 6 hours. The sleeper seats arn't necessary. Persoanly I would love them, but the other seats are fine.

With the PTVs, they would be nice on a long trip in a 747, but you live with what you get. I have heard that there are a lot of maintnce problems with them. You get angry pax when a PTV dosn't work. Also those little boxes under the seats (power supply for the PTV) gets in the way of my feet.

Actually, BA has installed Sleeper Seats on their long-haul 763 fleet. Sleeper seats in BA First are pretty much the same as First Suite seats on UA.

Yes, the BA timetable shows the diagram for the 763.

BA First: 8 Suite-style seats (1-2-1)
Club World : 36 seats (2-2-2)
World Traveller: 137 seats (2-3-2)

181 Seats Total,

7 such long-haul 763s in the fleet.

The Whole Ponit...

Thw whole point of my question is this...

1.) In April 2001, I will be flying a United 767-200 and 747-400 in business class. Should I excpect the new buisness class seats on both or only one of the flights? And if only one, which one?

2.) If a 777-200 or 747-400 has new buisness class seats, does that mean it also has First Suite?

3.) When will the 777-200's be 100% done with getting installed First Suite?

In April 2001, your flight on the 747-400 should have the new Business Class seats. Right now, I'd say well over 50% of the 744 fleet are configured with the new seats. By then, they should all be done. I'm not terribly sure if the 762 will have the new appointment by April 2001.

Just because a 744 has newly styled Business Class seats does not mean it has First Suite. Flying SFO-SYD last month, our 744 had the new Business Seats, but just regular First Class (N189UA). On the way back (N197UA) we had new Business Class seats, and First Suite on the 744, so it's all messed up.

I'll try to get the exact dates of when UAL is workign on the 762s. They might be done by then. Lets hope so.

To the answer to your second question.

It all depends. Most of them will have both, but some...quite possibly not. Fly777UAL, can you be of some help here?
