EVA Pulling Out Hong Kong/Macau?

Mon Sep 18, 2000 9:05 am

In recent reports from Taiwan, EVA Air may be forceing to pull out Hong Kong and Macau because People's Republic of China thinks that EVA supports Taiwan's independence. And there's no way for EVA to earn revenue in China and support Taiwan's independence at the same time.

Is it true that EVA will suspende Macau flights from Dec 14, 2000 (The date that Taiwan and Macau's aviation treaty expires) and Hong Kong next june?

Hi Jiml1126,

Where did you get the news of EVA pulling out the services?
Because I can't find any information about it on EVA's homepage, Hong Kong's newspapers, and even the newspaper in the mainland China/Taiwan local newspapers.

That's really a big shake of the news, coz Hong Kong and Macau is under the protection of '1 country, 2 systems', the BeiJing Government won't do anything to break the law.

Dont think so. Just remember, CAL is thinking to invest in China Cargo Airlines. Politics sometimes ends when Business starts. Seems to be the ususal saber rattling. Anyway, as asked before, where do you get your news from?
