Wed Sep 20, 2000 8:38 am

I was at the airport today talking to my former Southwest buddies. They informed me that TWU and WN started talks today for the new ramp contract..... My views of WN have NOT changed but as a former WN ramper myself, just wanted to show my support for all WN rampers and for TWU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you guys get everything you asked for and then some. Including a pay raise, I know you guys need it!!!!!!!!!!!

NO doubt the rampers are due for a raise. They might also ask the TWU to negotiate a higher 401K match. I certainly hope that the rampers don't share your enthusiasm towards the TWU. After all, the TWU doesn't issue their paychecks.

I hope that they get a contract that is mutually beneficial to them and the company.

Well Coex, I can only say that CO Express may one day become just as "sucky" as Southwest. Nothings perfect, no union will ever make it perfect. When the next COEX contract comes up for renewal, it will be interesting to see if CO/COEX is still a "great company" in your eyes, or if the TWU has your greater allegiance.

Perhaps you should consider getting a job with the TWU itself. That way, their name is on your paycheck, and remember, in a strike, nobody's signing YOUR paychecks, but the TWU guys are still pulling in a check.

If the unions do such a fine job o representing the employees, how come the mechanics are pissed off at UAL, and the FA's so pissed off at USAirways, etc. Seems like somebody's not doing their job.

Dude chill man..... you might hurt yourself.... I don't work for UAL or USAirways..... Never had.... As for Southwest and as always which is something that some of YOU people need to understand.... it is MY OPINION that the rampers of WN use TWU to the fullest.... Incase you missed it, MY OPINION..... MY OPINION, meaning this is how I see the situation and how I see a solution. MY OPINION. Goingboeing.... you need to kick back, drink a beer or something but mellow out man... your a bit tense and this is just a fun aviation forum..... Take a deep breath, listen to some soft music...... Now, if you want something to argue about, who do you plan to vote for president, Bush or Gore? Just kidding.. trying to get you to laugh...........

(even when I support WN, somewhat, I still get crap from people.... I love it.....)

Coex, I support you 100% on what you say and have said in this forum. If you don't like Southwest, thats an opinion that I respect. To be honest, I wouldn't fly on Southwest Airlines either. I was just reading the post and saw how Goingboeing decides to act abit childish. Ignore people like that and continue with your post.
I agree. From what I do understand about Southwest Airlines I feel union action is needed. When I fly, as I said, I stay away from Southwest just because the last few times I have flown them my experiences haven't been good at all. I've been trying to learn more about the ramp/union talks and I do agree with you that the employees at Southwest could go for a pay increase. Of course, I say this as an outsider trying to learn more about these talks. I'm a frequent flyer of American Airlines and Continental.
My reason for leaving this post was because I am an aviation fanatic who came to this forum with hopes of sharing opinions and learning more about aviation. Yet, I've seen more arguing or imature post from people and it makes me wonder why I'm even still on this forum. I want aviation topics where people can share their opinions openly. I think very highly of American Airlines and if I read where someone bashed them in a post, I respect their opinion. Look at me now, I'm preaching.
Your doing good Coex and keep it up.

NOt giving you crap Coex...a lot of rampers are younger, why make them think that the TWU will provide the ultimate soloution...they won't. They will hopefully negotiate a contract that both parties will find acceptable for a few years, until that agreement suddenly becomes "unfair".

Bob, Sorry you think it's childish to try to remind someone that they shouldn't put a union above their employer. Did you enjoy the sickout the APA staged at AA? That one cost the union a few bucks, as I recall reading, and the pilots at AA are far from "underpaid". Sorry you had a bad experience on SWA. I've had pretty good luck with them myself.

MY U/UAL examples are to show that although the union negotiated the current contracts, the employees are apparently still unhappy. Thus, the unions must not have done a very good job the first time around. Never implied that you worked for one of those carriers.

BTW, why is it in a "debate" where one doesn't resort to name calling, if a differing opinon is offered, one needs to "chill" or they are accused of "acting childish".. Still fail to see anything childish in my posts.
