Unique Restaurants @ Airports

Wed Sep 20, 2000 5:29 pm

Responding on another thread got moi thinking !!!
What unique restaurants are located inside the Airports ? e.g. Legal Seafood @ Logan, CJ or Carvery (Is it still there) at SEA-TAC etc.etc.

....

.....
Let's make up a definitive list   for all airports that we know of.

This would
help many folks, so that they do not even bother
with the rest of the lousy bars/pubs etc.

I think the airport restaurants at ARN in Terminal 5 are very nice if you get a table at the window.

The airport restaurant in KLU (Kalgenfurt, Austria) is even nicer as you can sit on the terrace without any glass infront of you. Unfortunately ther is not to much traffic. Mainly Tyrolean, Crossair, KLM Alps and Charter.

The restaurant at GRZ is also very nice (excellent food!) and has a wonderful view over tarmac and runway.

I agree with Reimar, I love the restaurant at ARN. They've got huge panoramic windows so you can see the ramp at terminal 5. I sat there for some three hours a couple of months ago.

Here's what you see...not to brag, but those are my pics.

Encounter at LAX, in the theme building. Designed by the Disney Imagineers. It's cool. Press the button in the elevator that takes you up and trippy 60's style future/surf music plays (and on the return too). Lava lamps. The building changes color on the outside. The whole place is tre Jetsons.

Yes, I'd have to agree that 'Encounter' at LAX takes the cake... it is an absolutely insane place, straight out of a 60's science fiction movie...more of a Jetson's Style lounge than a restaurant, if one get's to spend more than a few hours at LAX, a Martini there is absolutely essential! Especially at night. LA being LA though, it is very challenging to get to on foot, but well worth it!

When just want to WATCH the planes go by at HEL, there is a Bar named "Fly Inn" on the second floor near the departure hall 3. From there, you can see quite well what's happening around (RWY 04/22 and 15).

Anyway, the place isn't good for photography because of a think glass.

Some sights taken from "Fly Inn":

Fittingly, in DFW, there are several locations of the Dallas Cowboys Bar & Grill or something like that. They also give you a choice of coke: liquid or powder

Danny And Unique Restaurants

Thu Sep 21, 2000 12:16 pm

Oh you just had to tease me with those pictures. I just came back from Stockholm about 2 weeks ago and had breakfast right were you took those pictures. Your right it does offer some great views!!! Thanks for the picts.

As for my favorite restaurant. Its not in the airport but rather overlooking it. The airport I am talking about is Miami International and the restaurant is The 94th Aerosquadren. It offers amazing views of over a hundred different airlines. The food is awesome and you can listen to the control tower if your tierd of listening to your friends or relatives gossip.

Well this place isn't located at a commerical airport, but still good.

Anzio Landing at Falcon Field (FFZ) in Mesa, AZ USA sits at the northeast end of the airport abeam of RWY 22L. You can fly your Cessna in and taxi up to the door. Food is pretty good. and the sunsets are nice. And you can watch the planes line up for Sky Harbor.

Well if you are going to include non-commercial airports, then there is DC-3 and Typhoon, both located at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport in Santa Monica, California (Los Angeles). These are popular, trendy, and you gotta make reservations. Both have recieved good reviews. DC-3's been around for at least 10 years.

Trivia: Did you know that that Santa Monica Airport was the home of McDonnell Douglas for many years? The Santa Monica Airport has Museum of Flight and the MD boardroom with circular meeting table is still there on view. It's in a glass room and there are airplane models all over the place. It's the actual boardroom executives used to meet in.
