Delta Hard Landing? (night News)

Thu Sep 21, 2000 11:05 am

I just caught the end of a "top story" about people injured in either a rough landing or severe in-flight turbulence on a Delta flt... though I saw a 757 pic.... But I don't see it on any news sites.

anyone have the details?

Well, I've checked all the major networks web sites and listened to a round or two of Lynn Russel at CNN-HLN, no luck. I apologize if I posted something that didn't happen. I did see it though-- I wish I hadn't let tivo switch to "oz"!

A delta 747-6000 cruising at Flight Level 5-4-5-5-5 at 32598578947859347 mph dived into the atmosphere and then made a hard landing at CGNjgrgjklr; airport.

Thats what really happened....

Here's The Deal

Fri Sep 22, 2000 1:21 am

I heard it mentioned on WFTV in Orlando. A Delta 767 en route from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta hit severe turbulence. Several passengers were knocked around, but no one seriously injured. The plane landed as scheduled in Atlanta where some passengers were treated for minor bumps and bruises.

it was flight 1581 FLL ATL. the plane hit an air pocket over dublin, ga on their final descent into ATL. the set belt light were not on. there was no sign of turblence in the area. it just happend so quickly. there were 24 injurd passenger the were taken to 4 ATL area hospitals to be treated for various injuries and there was 2 flight attendents injured pretty bad. the beverage cart landed on top of one of them. the other hit the overhead bin. i hate when stuff like this happens.

The reason this was so newsworthy is because this was one of the "substitution flights" being operated with the 767-400. There were 4 passengers and 1 flight attendant being held overnight for observation at South Fulton Medical Center. The other 28 pax were treated for minor injuries and released on the scene.

That's why they recommend you keep seated with your seat belt on during the whole flight even if the pilot takes off the seat belt sign off. I never take my seat bealt off during a flight. In fact, I try to hold it on short flights. Like LGA-PBI. I only take it off if I can't hold it any longer. I'm always tightening it up. That's just me. Very cautious.
