New Airline IN Croatia

Sun Sep 24, 2000 9:04 am

As i read in AERO magazine, in March 2001, new airline will take off in Croatia! Head quarters would be in Zagreb and operations would undertake scheduled flights within Europe. Fleet would include two DORNIERs 328JET! Unbeliveable! A year ago, I read in local newspapers that a new Croatia airline would be founded, by pilots and other interested partys. Name was also Air Adriatic, but fleet back them was supposed to be MD80series, only for charter operations. However, I never heard anything about AIR ADRIATIC since then, until most recently in AERO. This is simply to good to be true. I wonder where would they fly? Hm, perhaps to Copenhagen, which once had almost twice daily service from Zagreb (SAS and CROATIA), but now only connecting Lufthansa via Frankfurt! CROATIA has during the last two years discontinued a lot of its services in order to gain profit. Most recently they stopped flying to Moscow, but increased profitable Madrid service. Other destionations previously flown (for years) but now not included: Stuttgart, Hamburg, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tirana, Brussels, Milan Hopefully, there will be enough space for Air Adriatic to expand and re-introduce some of these services. Or perhaps they start to compete with CROATIA directly? Who knows! Is there anybody who knows more about Air Adriatic and its foundation??? What about future plans this airline has??? Thanks a lot for any info

hardly wait for that airlines - it is boring
to see Croatia Airlines only at Zagreb (well not
only, but other acft are just visiting)

there was an another airline in Croatia in 1993.
Anic Airways - it flew single ATR42 but it stopped
operating very quickly
there was also proposed airline - Air Croatia -
but it wasn't started- it's fleet should have been
very sizeable -I'll try to find that article and post new message then
but I know that it included DC-10, Hercules and plenty of middle and short rangers

also Zagreb Airport is planning to build new terminal
by 2010. - when it is expected to reach 3 mill pax p.a. (today half of that)

Sounds great, especially since more and more travel agencies are offering Croatia as an alternative to Italy or Spain.

I remember my mother visiting Dubrovnik and saying it was very nice, especially for art, sea, cafes, etc. Is this an indication that the Tourists are returning?

tourist are in fact returning - I hope that Slobo
won't start a war in Montenegro - that would
really strike tourism in Croatia - and not to mention
new killings and destruction

BTW.
in May this year I've seen Do328Jet without
colors of an airline, propably used by factory landing in Zagreb several
times - and the contract was reportedly signed on 25.5.1999.
