Why No BA 744 To Dfw?

Tue Sep 26, 2000 6:56 am

I don't understand why there is no 744 service from DFW to LGW. I flew on this route with BA a couple of years ago on a DC-10 going and a 777 returning, and both flights were completely full. I guess why I ask the question is because IAH gets 744 service and DFW doesn't. It seems that DFW gets a hefty amount of traffic whereas IAH would seem to be less. Also, BA is a oneworld partner with AA, so it should seem that they would send a 744 for the traffic, rather than a 777. Does anyone know why not? Also, does KLM plan on having service to DFW anytime soon? Seems like the next logical European airline to come to DFW.

Actually the most logical new European airline for DFW would be AF. Even though DL's hub in DFW isn't too big, AF still makes the most sense.

I have always wondered that, I have flown that route 1 time going and 2x coming back, both on BA and AA and the planes were filled to capacity, AA has put it's largest jets on the route(in seating capacity) MD-11,777. But I am surprised about British Airways not sending 747's to dallas especially since BA passengers can connect to AA whereas in IAH,they can't. I wonder why BA has not upgraded to a 4 holer, I mean all of the reasons say yes but I dunno why they haven't.

Don't forget AA flies twice daily DFW-LGW, one M11 and one 772, so there is already plenty of capacity on this route.

However BA will alternate the 777 and 744 this winter from DFW. Check the online scheds at britishairways.com
to see what I'm talking about.

I tried the BA page, and I couldn't locate a 747 on this route. Can you give me more specific details on that. - Thanks
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

There are 4 total flights from IAH-LGW, 2 operated by CO, and 2 by BA. Co operates 2 daily flights on 777s. BA operates one daily 744 flight, and one daily 777 flight. It seems like a huge market. KLM flies a lot of cargo to IAH. They operate a 747-400 combi plane. I have seen them unload vintage cars of this plane once.

Cba, you're a little bit off on your post. BA operates a daily 747-400 on the LGW-IAH route right now. Starting in either November or December, they will commence two extra weekly flights with the 777. I believe starting early next year, BA's IAH-LGW schedule will be 747-400's 134567, and 777's 2(X2)57 for a total of 6 747-400's and 4 777's a week.

As for why IAH gets larger equipment and will have more frequencies than DFW is simple. A list of top ten worldwide cities for nonstop traffic from LGW was published recently, and IAH was #10. The only other U.S. city was Orlando at #6. There is obviously a big market for this route.
