QF/AA Codeshare To Canada

Wed Sep 27, 2000 7:57 am

On September 25th, the Canadian Transportation Agency approved a codeshare agreement between Qantas and American Airlines. American has approval to codeshare on Qantas flights between Honolulu and Vancouver. Qantas has approval to codeshare on American flights between Los Angeles and Toronto.

NO Direct AA Flights Between LAX And Toronto

Wed Sep 27, 2000 12:41 pm

American does not currently fly between Los Angeles and Toronto directly!

are the fllights going to be one stop after LA?

Qantas already flies to Toronto via Honolulu with 767-300's

I believe that AA are to commence a non-stop service between LAX & YYZ starting 1 Nov 2000. It is around this time that Qantas will stop flying HNL-YYZ, and instead route their YYZ bound passengers thru one of their many Aust - LAX services. AA are expected to use their new 737-800 for the LAX / YYZ service.

There is also talk that the 737-800 may be upgraded to the originally planned 767 service now that Qantas will be code-sharing.

As mentioned, AA will begin Los Angeles - Toronto non-stop service in November. Reading into the Canadian Transportation Agency approvals, it appears Qantas will stop Toronto service and route passengers on American. (No actual word on this, yet.)

The QF codeshare with AA is now up and running
LAX YYZ will be QF 3245
YYZ LAX will be qf 3246

With this in place AA should do OK on the route

Too bad, though. It was great to see Qantas in Toronto - even if only for four months!

I'm sorry Polaris, but it is not what the spotters want, if it was the spotters choice, every airline would serve every airport with a heavy. But it is about the money and alliances, AA and QF are in Oneworld and they have to go out of their way not to compete with each other, if it weren't for QF, AA would probably be flying to SYD from LAX but I guess it won't happen. I think the service will do pretty good as long as it leaves so passengers on the QF flight can connect with the flight to YYZ.

The extra plane from the YYZ route will be added to the YVR run increasing the frequency of that service.
