Iberia's A340 Operations

Sun Oct 01, 2000 7:27 am

The only route I am sure Iberia flies with the A340 is BCN-JFK. What are the others? One of the pictures on airliners.net shows an Iberia A340 at SJU. Is that a normal flight? Will they be replacing the 742's to MIA? Anybody who knows routes of Iberia's A340-300's could you please post them?

Thank you very much

I know that the A340 flies from ORD to Madrid, and then The SJU is a normal A340 flight!

It uses the A340 to Chicago, some times to San Juan/Santo Domingo (also DC10), Bogota, Lima, Quito/ Gauyaquil, Santiago, Sao Paulo and on 3 out of 11 flights a week to Buenos Aires. Quite often it is also used on early morning flights to London and to the Canary Islands. The 747s are used to NYC, Miami, Mexico, Havana, the other fights to Buenos Aires and to Johannesburg. Rio gets 767-300. The DC10s are used on the latin american routes listed above plus Caracas and, togheter with Airbuses A300, are the main equipment to the Canary Islands wich see, beside the ocasional A340, a 747 every now and then.

Welcome!!!

Once connecting to BCN via MAD from Rio I took an A340 for the domestic flight!!! There were many connecting passangers from Iberia's long haul flights!!!

Iberia also comes to Costa Rica for the high season, with direct flights from MAD (not the feeder DC9 from MIA or STO). They usually use a 767-300 but I've also seen them use A340 (first ever in C.R.)... Otherwise for the high season we get Condor 767-300 the awesome LTU A330 and Martinair with the MD11. BA also came for a while with a B777.

Isn't Lima's runway pretty short for an A340?

Apparently not, because also Lufthansa is using its A340 on non-stop FRA-LIM flights.

In addition to the daily 747 to Miami, the second flight operated thrice weekly does in fact use an A340. Problem is it was scheduled into and out of MIA after sunset.
My definition of cool ? Not trying so hard to be cool.
