ATA To Order 757-300 And 737-800 Aircraft!

Sun Oct 01, 2000 2:23 pm

Aloha!
Have any of you been to ATA's wb site recently? I just came across this article, stating ATA's intention to buy both 737-800s and 757-300s!!
Take a look-

"47 New State-of-the-Art Boeing Aircraft Pave the Way for ATA's Future Growth

More than two years of hard work and planning by ATA culminated in Seattle, Washington, when ATA's parent company, Amtran, Inc., signed an unprecedented agreement on Thursday, May 4, 2000 to purchase 47 new state-of-the-art Boeing aircraft. ATA will begin taking delivery of 37 Boeing 737-800's and 10 Boeing 757-300's beginning in the second quarter of 2001. All 47 of these aircraft will be flying in ATA's fleet by the first quarter of 2003.

'We look forward to bringing to our customers, the comfort, reliability and efficiencies of what will be the youngest fleet in the industry." -John Tague, President & CEO"

So expect to see more of those 753s cruising the skies of America soon!!!

Any thoughts/opinions?

Cath ya all later,

This will be a total of 524 aircraft for Boeing now.

If this happens, the new orders will be:

Airbus: 262

Boeing: 524

Yes this is old news, but I don't think anybody brought it up in this forum before...

Anyway, I've seen from Boeing website a few months ago that these ATA 737-800s will be fitted with winglets. And those winglets, according to the computer-generated graphics, are HUGE!!! They'll look really like BBJs but with yet larger winglets... I'm pretty excited to see such a funny-shaped plane.

No, the count still stands at 477 (467 w/ cancellations). These aircraft have already been confirmed and have been added to the total, and have been there for some time now. I know you claim to get your facts from Boeing.com, perhaps you missed this one.

This time, I didn't say that I got it from Boeing. I just added the orders. Anyway, nevermind.

It is indeed old news, but there is something quite unique in the story. From what I've heard Boeing Inc. will take an equity interest in Amtran to help the IND based carrier pay for the new aircraft. This is not a common business technique for airliner manufacturers. Any insight?

Equity interest...call me wierd but I've never heard of that before. What is it?

As to all who say this it old news, sorry. I haven't been to ATA's web site in a long time and I hadn't seen any posts on the forum about the purchase, so I thought I'd share.
Again, sorry!!

but please! Tell me what equity interest is!Could be useful should I someday want to start an airline.
