Tue Oct 03, 2000 3:25 am

Hi Folks
In the eraly 90's there used to be an Airline called America-Africa operating a MD-11.
Does anybody knows anything about that now defunct Airline?

Greetings

I believe USAfrica is correct and they did actually fly from Washington-Dulles to South Africa for awhile....but not long if I remember correctly.

Timz and Tomindc you are right.
The airline was called USAfrica, just checked a photo in my Aviation Mazgazine.

Any more Information (wich MD-11?, cn/fn?) is appreciated.

THANKS

Despite the failure of this USAfrica enterprise (kind of a cool name though), I think that direct, low-cost service from the US (NYC only maybe IAD) to points in Africa could work. I don't know much about the market and I'm sure the yeilds will be low, but I think it's surely viable. To work, fares would have to be very low, and costs held in check. Efficiency would be the name of the game here. Also, an airline like this could probably ring out support from US gov't, UN, and African govt's. I'd be willing to get involved with it, if it was a well-run operation.
