Ryanair Ending ORK-DUB (last Domestic From ORK)

Tue Aug 23, 2011 9:08 am

As of Oct 30, the last domestic route from Cork, to Dublin, will cease to exist. Ryanair has announced that due to the improved motorway access and high charges at Dublin Airport, they will axe the route. This news comes as a blow to the local business community. Passengers numbers have fallen on the route a lot. At its peak, Ryanair had 5 services a day from Cork to Dublin, at the moment they have a day return flight. Bad news. Will another airline such as Aer Arann or even Aer Lingus Regional take over the route? http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland...nair-axes-dublin-route-165149.html

Hmmm...if FR can't make this work I don't know who can. Possibly AerArann with ATR42s. WN said for the longest time that their biggest competitor was the car.

Ryanair had 189 seats available on the route. Aer Arann would be perfect even Aer Lingus Regional

A high frequency Express coach service would be a much better replacement. You could connect to far more destinations.
A service similar to what we see to Galway is what's really needed.

The only way this route will work is with connecting traffic, so Aer Lingus regional are best placed.

You can drive between Cork and Dublin in a little over two hours. There is just no time saving anymore, in fact, city to city, it's longer by air.
