Any More News From STL?

Tue Aug 23, 2011 12:32 pm

There was an interesting topic some time back regarding the future of STL:

Any News From STL? (by BretonRLong Dec 16 2010 in Civil Aviation)

I think it's clear why AA pulled out, so that doesn't need to be rehashed, but what about new hub operations? Southwest has a fairly thriving operaton there. Why not JetBlue, as some have hypothesized?

I know it isn't exactly what you were asking for, but on their website and Facebook page they have posted some pictures of the glass replacement in Terminal 1, which started recently.

Oh gosh not another JetBlue HAS to come to STL discussion... Well, while yes the airline should have plans to use the E-190's to their hubs I just can't imagine JetBlue going there anytime soon. Maybe 3 years minimum. They just have a ton more places to go. DFW, CVG, DTW, MSP and ATL are still missing from their route map. They have alot to go before STL.

I don't think the B6 to St. Louis discussions are as prevalent as people make them out to be -- people act like its as common as the old NW DC9 retirement threads.

Fact is is that its a logical next step for the airline and people are simply adding two plus two. Of the routes you list Dallas would be the only reasonable venture, Cincinnati isn't worth it at htis point, and all of Detroit, Minneapolis, and Atlanta have Delta ready and willing to utilize their economies of scale to protect their interests.

Other than that there's not much to report.

I just read in another thread that G7 may be flying for DL in 2012. I wonder if this would turn into a lot of RJ flights that route through STL just for crews and MX. That would be scary.

V2 is adding flights I think to FLL and PGD. I know PGD was in an article for sure and FLL shows as a non-stop on V2's website.

Does anyone know if WN plans to add a boarding bridge to E2?

The rumor mill around the ramp (so to speak) is that RAH is contracting out F9 operations. Anyone have word on this?

SAT is offering airlines incentives to fly non-stop to select cities that don't currently have service non-stop. STL was on the list. Who would be the best candidate?

I imagine they might just do what United did and make the majority of their regional flights to STL GoJet rather than a mix. It isn't something I'd be terribly excited about because it could mean E-Jets being replaced by CRJs.

Some positive news is that AA is running 757 to ORD, STL, MIA, and LAX now for some frequencies. More good news is that STL-MIA will be 3x daily for the winter season.

I gave up on STL after they decided to rebuild terminal C to it's pre-storm condition. Earlier this year I thought the airport was turning into a nice, clean smaller operation with the only drawback being too many empty gates. We shall see now after the damage is fixed and D is again shuttered.

Southwest. I can't imagine any airline other than WN that would even have a shot on this route and even for them it seems like they would need a nice incentive to want to risk it

But with only 12 frames, there wouldn't be that much need for G7 flying to and from STL, maybe 6-8 flights per day. Moving all the STL-CVG to G7, which will almost certainly happen if most or all of this flying is ex-CVG, gets us halfway there and gets us nicer service on the route (as well as a guarantee, a la STL-PIT, that it won't get cut).

I had the same line of thinking - CR7's on MEM or CVG would most likely be an improvement over the current 2x CRJ, 1x CR7 schedules. They would also have the option of rotating birds to STL via LGA or DCA since those are CR7 routes from STL (though it's uncertain if DCA service will stick around at all once the slots are swapped). DL has periodically included CR7's in the MSP, DTW, and SLC schedules as well - a few rotations would mostly be a wash. I do find it unlikely that they will disrupt the all-mainline schedule to ATL at this point.

I agree. It would be nice to see DL start more point-to-point to other niche routes like they did with RDU. This would be a great way to get them from STL into the network and back as needed.

Does anybody know what the airport authority is doing with all those buildings on the north side of the airport. If not the airport, who is responsible for them?
