No, there are many more from the 80s, but quite a few have seen their registration changed (from Danish to Norwegian registration, for example), or have been leased out (most of them to Spanair and Scanair); this gives a sketched view in the airfleets.net database.

The MSN (Manufacturer Serial Number) gives it away; clicking on the registration reveals the history. There seem to be 11 MD80s active that have been delivered in the 1980s, the newest one (LN-RMS) was delivered in 1992.

The MD80s will be completely replaced by 2014, by a mix of 737NG (OSL, ARN) and A320 (CPH).

At CPH, by 2014, the MD80s will be replaced by short-term leased A320s. By 2016, these will be replaced by A320neo-aircraft; SK has 30 on order and 11 option.

At ARN, by 2013, the MD80s will be replaced by 737NGs.

At OSL, by 2014, the 737 classics will be replaced by 737NGs.

Well, when wil SAS retire all their MDs?

I just flew on an MD81 (SE-DIR) and what an old POS. The plane was delayed for one hour due to a mechanical fault (ok so this can happen even to new planes), and once the plane braked before entering the runway, the brakes sounded like they were worn out. The entire aircraft was vibrating.. It just really felt like a very worn down plane.. Not hard to understand why customers prefer DY when they for the most part have brand new planes and now soon all equipped with free Wifi.

Actually, the SAS MD80 fleet is like this :
Many 1980s vintage.
Youngest frame is from 1992.
The last MD80 is planned to be phased out in 2014, and they are to be replaced by leased A320oeo and 737NGs.
Later new A320NEOs will arrive

Do they even have 87's around anymore? I thought all they had were 81's and 82's.

IIRC I flew a MD87 in 1998, CPH-TLV, could this be true?

We flew on MD87 OY-KHU FRA-CPH mid 2009. OY-KHU was stored soon after, however now back in service. I saw it at the gates when we were at CPH a few weeks back.

My first and probably only ride on an MD80 series aircraft as we don't have any in this part of the world.

Where are the MD80s based? CPH? ARN or OSL?

Have just booked a little trip for the sole purpose of flying these birds before they depart...Heathrow-Gothenburg-Stockholm-Copenhagen-Heathrow...all in one day and with three scheduled MD's; the return LHR flight being on an A319.

Just two weeks to go and can't wait

Scanair

Scanair hasn't been around since 1994. That airline was merged with Conair and created Premiair, which turned into MyTravel and later Thomas Cook Scandinavia, and they certainly don't operate any leased SAS MD-80s.

Soon to be paid for on DY,...

I love the MD80's and inside, the SAS aircraft look still in a great condition.

I agree the planes look very well kept on the inside!
SK used to be one of my fav airlines to fly- lately they have a more LCC feel to the service.
Hopefully now that they're making some money they can eventually get back in the game.
I also must add, I think SK has the best looking MD80s out there! Love the livery.

There is a MD87 at the STS hangar at OSL with no engines on it. Its been sitting there since forever.
