A Question For A Continental Airlines Historian

Wed Aug 24, 2011 11:59 pm

I purchased a die cast 200 scale model of a CO 727-100 in the original golden jet livery, which is my favorite of any, ever. However, I cannot locate one single photo of it being flowin in this color scheme. All pictures are of the meatball golden jet. I don't want to get the model if one never actually flew in the original golden jet scheme, which was also applied to the Viscout and the 707. Thanks for the help!

IIRC, I read somewhere a couple of years ago the "Black Meatball" was introduced in 1968 or early 1969.

I asked because I was curious if any -200 wore golden jet livery.

These photos, dated March and May 1968, are the oldest in the database with the meatball livery.

So it appears the new livery had alredy been introduced when CO's first 727-200 (photo below) was delivered May 21, 1968.

It was either 1967 or 1968. It was on the cover of Aviation Week. The first aircraft in the new livery was a 727-100.
