Hong Kong Airlines New Routes

Sat Aug 27, 2011 7:29 am

Good day everyone.

I was taking a look at Hong Kong Airlines flight schedule and came across a few new destinations loaded into their system:

- Seattle
- Brussels
- Berlin
- Budapest

When I go to search the flight schedule I'm unable to pull up any timings for these flights, but I can only assume that they're in the system because scheduled flights to these destinations will start fairly soonish?

Have these already been announced and I'm just way behind on this one?

They have never flown, do not currently fly and have no plans in the next year to fly to any of these destinations.

However, they interline with Hainan on these services ex-Beijing.

HX had placed their code on HU for these destinations, transiting pax via PEK.

HX on its own operates HKG-SVO, soon to London in Mar2012 with all-premium config and to CDG and SYD next summer but no tentative schedule given out yet.

Is there even any room for them on HKG-SYD? The market is already 4 X Daily CX (A330), 1 X Daily VS (A346) and 10 X Weekly QF (1 X Daily B744, 3 X Weekly A330). Thats significant competition.

There may well be more room to move into MEL, especially with QFs capacity decrease into MEL on the HKG sector (B744 down to A330), or even BNE and PER.

HX will begin with 3 weekly A333 service to SYD, but I would expect that would be lost making initially and that they want to build up their brand as time goes.

The question regarding the choice between SYD and MEL has been raised by several interviewers to HX management at different occasions but they reiterate that they intend to start with SYD but not MEL.

^^ Cool, thanks for that info. Their decision makes very little sense to me, but it's their money they are working with

Building a market from a city that is nearly as big, with growing international tourism and business links, with less competition, MEL would appear to be a good option. It appears SYD tends to create some tunnel vision for airline management. Time will tell.

For the time being, yes, as those A333 will arrive by early 2012.

Absolutely yes, we guys believe there are better reasons to launch MEL than SYD but who knows how they plan it out, that remains to be seen.
