CSA To Cut A Total Of 6 Routes In Winter

Mon Aug 29, 2011 9:38 am

Looked it this has been posted before, couldn't find it anywhere. If it was posted before please delete the thread.

Just read that CSA will be axing a total of 6 routes (for now) out of Prague this coming winter.

1. Prague-Belgrade
2. Prague-Bologna
3. Prague-Bordeaux
4. Prague-Marseille
5. Prague-Venice
6. Prague-Zurich

(I did not include Prague-Tel Aviv as they are not leaving it voluntarily).

It's a true shame that they are leaving Belgrade. They have been operating into Serbia since 1946. I must say that this was expected, for a long time now they have been reducing the frequencies.

I am really shocked about Zurich though. How come they didn't manage to make it work?

Flights are not bookable on www.csa.cz starting from the winter timetable.

Makes me wonder, how is CSA contributing to Skyteam with so many routes being cut? Didn't AF cancel all code-shares they had with them? How much longer are they going to stay in Skyteam?

Why are they leaving Tel Aviv? I gues that is good for Tarom, CSA can now connect to RO's Tel Aviv flights.

There was a discussion on here some time ago related to this issue. I think it was because the Czech government chose Travel Service as the official carrier between the two countries- since there is a bilateral in place.

Exactly!

It is shame! And yes, AF cancelled all their codeshares with OK this spring.

But one thing to make clear: Bordeaux, Marseille and Venice are seasonal routes. The cutting was expected as well as we can expect them to restart in 2012.
However, I am really shocked by Zurich, Belgrade and Bologna! Terrible! Plus they stopped Bratislava (their first ever route flown back in the 1920s) a while ago.
I am starting to think OK is going to be finished soon. Maybe they want to bankrupt it and restart it again like Swissair or Sabena style. Otherwise, I don´t understand this behavior... It wants to make me cry.

Their operations to Belgrade have been a real mess lately. They had 13 weekly flights at one point and then all of a sudden they were reduced to 4 (currently operated).

Here is a comparison of the average number of passengers per flight between Prague and Belgrade on OK:

2010
39.4(31)
41.0(28)
36.9(34)
35.2(50)
35.0(57)
31.5(53)
40.9(57)
39.4(58)
33.6(56)
32.9(57)
31.0(52)
33.4(48)

2011
22.8(42)
24.3(44)
21.6(53)
54.1(24)
57.4(22)
64.2(18)
59.9(19)

In the brackets I have put the total number of flights operated that month between the two cities.

I remember that Zagreb was also considered as a destination to be axed. It's good that it was kept as it was the first international destination of CSA.

I was upset when OK dropped the route to LHR.
