Good eye 3rdGen.

Hard to believe that nobody in Everett had the sense to at least have it covered up (if not removed completely).

But I'm sure the next time we see this aircraft it will be gone since it would be illegal for AI to take delivery of the plane as we see it in this photo.

I expect it will be handled once the airplane is prepared for delivery. I mean the JL birds are still in the old colors.

The August issue of the Air New Zealand in-flight magazine had three indian airports with a Star logo on the route map which indicates Star hubs. They must have almost joined.

Talk about an awkward break up...

"Hey Star, I got a tattoo professing my commitment to you" "Yah, AI, we need to talk..."

AI was invited to join star a few years ago. To join any alliance takes a good deal of work, mostly in terms of computer and IT upgrades to link in to the other airlines networks so you can print boarding passes and other stuff like that. About a month ago star withdrew AI's invitation. They had just been stalling and not getting their act together for so long, that it would bring into question as to whether they would be a stable partner in the alliance. AI has been plagued by bureaucracy and bad management for years; this has been reflected in their outdated products, and on time performance. In all honesty AI has become a lot better over the past 10 years, they still could not have cut it. I do not disagree with star's decision to rescind the invite, they gave AI years to get things together.

Cheers.... Thanks for the prompt response...
I agree this probably would of filled in one of the gaps in St*r Alliance's network...
What a shame AI didn't bother to act and upgrade and meet the requirements to join the alliance... This certainly would've been beneficial to AI network...

I am sure ST and *A will be courting 9W heavily in the coming days. It is too bad for AI, they really truly have come a long way over the years, joining star would have formally brought them into a new era and close out its darker government run days.

Why?
The plane was painted several years ago.
It is not in service; rather in storage.
Inactive.
The only time the livery will be addressed again is at delivery.
Removing it costs money. (Mechanic, paperwork telling mechanic to do so, etc.)

Everyone is Everett is worried about deliveries and post certification work - not a Star Alliance logo that was painted several years ago.

Boeing has painting facilities and teams in Everett. I'm not saying re-paint the aircraft, just patch it up for the time being.

Maybe I'm too detail oriented, but I wouldn't allow for a product to be incorrectly represented in the public view, especially when it can be so easily fixed.

LOL LOL bad AI Management!

See if an Indian IT outsourcing firm like Wipro or Infosys was managing Air India SITA infrastructure for the Star Alliance *A upgrade they would have made it!

But NO AI FAILS! ;(

It wasn't about Air India's IT failure in technology and communications, it was more about the management not moving QUICK ENOUGH even though the Air India board in Frankfurt GAVE REPEATED WARNINGS over MONTHS...

Presumably it would be AI that would have to pay for the coverup, Boeing isn't going to do it unless they are told to by the customer.

AI has to come up with the $$$ to have that done.

Boeing has better uses for every technician and engineer on the 787 right now. I could see AI requiring the change. They just need to fill out the change request and Boeing will charge them for the overtime...

9W is the 'bell of the ball' with alliances and Indian aviation. With IT pledged to OW, 9W will have many opportunities, but seems inclined to *A.

That leaves 3 much smaller players and AI for ST to choose among.

Maybe we'll see it on another 787?

Are there windows? I'm serious. Those seals start to age when installed. I've heard many (most?) of the 787s are sitting sans windows. Does this example even have windows?

I have to say, the bright orange blocks as weights does have a certain look...

Interesting - I have a picture of VT-ANA in the appeals queue right now and it doesn't have the Star Alliance logo. Neither does my picture of VT-ANB that got rejected (I'm not appealing that one).

Kinda like my picture of 747-8F N5017Q that was mismarked as N747EX. After my picture showed up on a.net, someone was out there the next day repainting the registration!

The Indian government may not let 9W join an alliance if AI is unable to enter one. It looks like Star was expecting the government to allow both airlines to join. Of course, the DGCA, as AI's guardian angel, was outraged. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Lot easier to remove a decal than a complete repaint. Given the delays, I wonder if JL will be able to tell Boeing that it is their job and cost to rerpaint the 787s.
