Do Canadian Carriers RON In Florida?

Tue Sep 06, 2011 11:03 pm

In over 30 years of spotting in TPA, I've never seen AC have a plane RON here. So first I was going to ask, if AC had any flights RON in Florida. Then I realized, Sunwing doesn't at PIE, and Air Transat doesn't at MCO Then I started wondering if any Canadian airlines RON in Florida. Is it because these are not business-oriented routes unlike LGA or LAX?

I believe AC does in MCO. Not sure about anywhere else.

Air Canada has RON before at MCO at their gate, gate 22. I don't believe that they are currently because this is their slow season, but they often do for their YYZ flight in winter and early summer.

I also believe that WJA has RON before at MCO in the past, mainly in the winter when they have all those extra flights to various Canadian cities. This was also at their gate, Gate 25. I remember nights where all of the gates were full in the 20s (International Gates Airside 1) during the winter and getting nervous I wouldn't have any gates in case there was fog in MIA and we got several diversions. We had these RONs - Taca Gate 20, Air Canada Gate 22, West Jet Gate 25, Copa Gate 26, Jet Blue (domestic) Gate 27, American (domestic) Gate 28, Jet Blue (domestic) gate 24 and another Jet Blue at Gate 23. We had to make sure after that, that at least one gate stays open in case of an emergency international diversion - such as fog in MIA that sent us multiple international diversions last January.

I never seen SWG or CJA RON at MCO because most of their flights usually arrive in the morning around 9am. TSC has never RON at MCO as far as I know unless they had a mechanical, which then a couple times the A310 did RON.

They are bringing in mostly tourists and sun-seekers. They want to be in early in the morning and leave later in the afternoon. Why pay for another night at a hotel only to leave at 7 am the next morning.

This would be correct. AC has 4 daily flights YYZ to MCO and the last arrival in MCO is 23:43 with an 8:00 departure time the next morning back to YYZ. My guess is this offer connections to other points in Canada

Cruise traffic dictates the same times as well, especially at FLL. There is no point departing back to Canada at 7am, since mose cruise ships arrive at port around that time.

haha, Sunwing pilots get off the plane and go to the hotel even if they're not supposed to, God forbid they don't get their 4 days in the all inclusive resorts their passengers are at.

AC has a daily (seasonal) YYZ-RSW that arrives at 2320, and returns to YYZ at 0800 the next day

I just took a quick look through the AC W11 sked and it looks like we'll only have the one MCO RON (as there is right now). All of the other flights to/from FL are turns.

Both Westjet and AC RON at MCO. I see their planes all the time when I travel to MEM with the early morning departure.

Doesn't WestJet and Air Canada RON in FLL? I could have sworn that I have seen them there before.

RON = Remain Over Night

We've always said Remain Overnight... however, Rest Overnight pretty much means the same, so you both get gold stars

WJA isn't currently I don't believe. They do during peak seasons but I think WJA is down to only 2 daily flights that come in the afternoon.

This morning I saw an AC E-Jet at the gates at MCO, no WJA. I think you are right. It is not usually somehting I oay attention to but today I did for this flight. Acctually I am writing this post from 35k feet on DL2199from MEM back to MCO. I will look when I land at mid-night if AC or WJA are there.
