Air France Moves To Matsushita IFE?

Mon Sep 19, 2011 1:29 pm

Hi all,

I came across this cabin photo of an Air France 777-300ER on Jetphotos, which clearly shows larger PTVs than in most other AF cabin photos I have seen.

The rounded corners of the screens, the three control buttons and the remote control clearly show that this is a Matsushita based system. Given that AF has traditionally been a Thales IFE customer, does this mean they have switched suppliers? Has anyone flown on Matsushita equipped aircraft? Is the IFE interface any different?

AF has Thales IFE system only in the A380 ...

The A380 is the only aircraft type in AF's fleet to be fitted with a THALES IFE

This picture was taken on board one of the last B77W delivered to AF featuring the new PANASONIC IFE SYSTEM that will progressively replace the Rockwell and Collins IFE system in service on bard the rest of the fleet (A332/A343/B772ER/B77W/some B744).

Definitely a good move by AF. Rockwell Collins IFE is very unreliable.
