Royal Jordanian Adds Lagos, More Coming

Tue Sep 20, 2011 2:30 pm

Royal Jordanian has announced it is to start Amman-Lagos (Nigeria) service from the end of November 2011. Flights will be operated by the Airbus A330 and will be direct. No flight schedules have been announced yet.

Furthermore, RJ will add Accra, Nairobi and Addis Ababa in the near future according to the airline press statement.

I believe Lagos will be a money-maker for RJ, as it will feed pilgrimage traffic into Amman and Jordan's Christian holy sites, neighboring countries in the near east, the Far East as well as lucrative muslim pilgrimage connections to Madina and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

I wonder if ACC will be a new non-stop route or just a tag-on on the new AMM-LOS route.

RJ seem like the quiet achiever in the corner! I have always like their brand whilst I concede to never having flown them. They seem to be offering an improving service. What are their A340s like in Y these days?

Shame RJ don't serve SIN non-stop from AMM, I think with a nice connecting schedule with QF they could get a fair amount of feed for these service and their middle-eastern services. Perhaps not the most high yielding but perhaps steal a little bit of traffic of EK and there two stop options from Aus. Especially for cities like ADL (not served by EK at all) and PER...

Hopefully - with MH entering Oneworld - AMM and RJ services will be a step closer for Australian based passengers with RJs service ex-KUL.

With enough investment, I wonder if RJ could become the new TK. Isn't a new terminal opening at Queen Alia? That should definitely help with expansion plans. Also, why don't they currently serve CMN/ALG?

Last year RJ showed interest in adding GRU to its network and, more time ago, W3 showed the same interest.
As LY is doing well on TLV-GRU, would RJ launch AMM-GRU with a stop in LOS and increase frequency to this Nigerian city?
This same strategy was used by TK when launched GRU with a stop in DKR.

Any chance they'll add JNB at some stage in the future?

There were rumors guessing the opposite:

Nevertheless, LY's service to South America is costly indeed, as they are forced to deviate around the African continent, for not being allowed to overfly Arabian countries.
At the end of the day, RJ is the most favoured player to operate the Holy Land-South America route.

I flew RJ six times over the summer on their A330s and i found out that every flight including crown class with the exception of one was oversold. They evidently have big plans for AMM as it is currently undergoing extensive upgrades, exciting times ahead for the airline it seems although there is always the looming threat of being stuck between the growing LCC activity in the region and the major gulf carriers.

Yeah apparently with the addition of a 3rd A330 whilst waiting on the 787's JNB is a certainty, DXB will probably be upgraded to an A330 service also.
